Another AR210 Wakesurf Question

We have an AR250 and took the boat out yesterday to try the 850# Fatsac designed for our boat.

We could not get any of the surfers on their feet. The boat felt like a slug. We are new to this, so we are just figuring things out. We have surfed without the transom bag, but we were hoping we could go ropeless with the new bag.

850# on Port Transom, 3 Adults(600#) on Port Seat in boat, Factory Yamaha rope, Coaster Slingshot/Hyperlite Landlock Boards...It felt like the boat was dragging too much. Now I am thinking that we should have had the adults move to the front...not really sure. Any 25' surfing experience would be appreciated.

Yeah, sounds to me like you might have wanted some counterweight in the bow or ski locker. Also, what speed were you running? I was able to make a pretty tall wave at 9.7, but speeding up to 10.5 makes the pocket a bit longer at the expense of some of the height.

That is what I was thinking.......obviously much later in the day. I didn't think about it at the time.

Not really sure they weren't even getting on two feet. Crashing near immediately. We do not have Ridesteady...but would like to add it fairly soon. Everyone who has it seems to enjoy.

First report and sort of a crappy one since it was just the wife and I so we got no video…
All we had so far was the swim step bag (725lbs) and the wakeshaper. The wave did grow quite a bit but the pocket was very short (again, video would be nice). We ran 10.5 mph at 6k rpm and played with speeds somewhat but 10.5 at this point was the tallest wave. We did go up to 11.5 at one point, which did lengthen the pocket, but gave very little to no push. We will be out again on the 4th with more people to move around the boat for experimentation. I was able to get some slack in the rope occasionally but I was awfully close to the boat 😂.
Either way, at this stage of the game I am happy for having something new to play with on the boat and having another dimension added to our boating experience.

One part that is kind of brutal is that the shaper directs the flow directly towards the thrust vectors which causes a bit of pulsing in the steering. My wife and I both noticed it when driving and I could actually see it when surfing.

So just two people in the boat? Yeah, I think you'll get a better wave with a few more people, or 1-2 other ballast bags strategically placed. I'd still have the people/ballast crowd into the corner that you're surfing (port for regular, starboard for goofy) but then also have one light-to-medium weight person go up to the opposite corner bow to even things out a bit. Should also make the wave a bit longer.

What board are you using? I'm about 180 pounds and was having the exact same issues as you - getting the Hyperlite Landlock board made a huge difference, in addition to the wave dialing that I'm describing.

I'd also try a run without the wake booster. I've seen some videos claiming that it doesn't actually help and may hurt - and I just had the best ropeless run so far this past weekend without it!

Honestly it is a combination of a lot of things going against me.....I don't really know how to surf yet (I've been behind a friends Centurion and never did it enough to go ropeless), I bought a used Ronix Marshmellow since we didn't even know if any of it would work out (I'll have to rectify that soon), and I am a porky 230lb. I am very interested in checking the wave without the shaper as well. I was surprised how much the wave grew with just the step bag but I could tell it was short as it kind of curled around not that far back. I've got a lot to work out with ballast/people weight distribution, boards, speed, to wakeshape or not, etc... Thanks for the insight. I'll get some video this week.

Which size of Marshmallow? If it's the 4'8" it's def too small for you. 5'2" should be OK but maybe not the easiest for your first.
