We purchased our 222SE in April 24. The last two times out I noticed a burning smell when we arrived at the ramp which is only 1.5 miles from where we store the boat. The trailer probably has less than 2000 miles on it.

I took it to a trailer repair shop, who indicated a caliper wasn't releasing.

Many of us have been told by dealers that they won't work on the trailers. I called Midwest Industries (the manufacture of Sholand'r) to see if the repair might be covered under warranty. I learned a couple of things. First when I told him that dealers won't work on the trailers, he said that he had heard that before, and that Yamaha's corporate agreement states that the dealers are supposed to service them. Second these trailers have a 1year warranty that covers only the coupler and the lights.

Even though my trailer is out of warranty by almost 4 months Midwest Industries agreed to pay to replace 2 calipers, a rotor and 2 hours labor.

Good to hear they stepped up and did that!

It’s amazing you were able to get a hold of them… good deal that you’re getting a new set of calipers. I’d be very interested to know what stuck on yours. So far I’ve had good luck with mine just by making sure to compress them with a pry bar then pump them back up, AND checking / lubricating the pins.

Shorland'r wants photos of old parts if possible. If I learn more specifics i will post. Waiting on parts to come in.

What I’m interested in is whether or not the Pistons are seized in the calipers or are the pins just dry that the calipers float on have you checked any of that?

I do not yet know the specifics of the failure.

According to the shop, there was so much extra break hose that it was kinked, which in their opinion caused the failure of the pistons.

So they’re saying that the brake hose was kinked and that was holding pressure in the calipers applying brake pressure to the rotors? Then all you should need is a new brake line, and a flush and bleed on the brake fluid.

I’m glad the are taking care of

However, a 1 year warranty only on lights and the coupler seems like a joke.

They've been excellent at warranty coverage for these trailers for years. Got 5 new wheels/tires for mine a couple years after I bought it, and then another couple years later they shipped out brand new fenders.
