Definitely won’t forget when I did this service? ?

- $150 Yamaha kit from Yamaha on Amazon
- Trailer and boat level on the driveway.
- 4 qrts out from each engine, yes 4. Looks like the dealer had it full to upper mark on each engine.
- Refilled with 3.5 qrts each engine. Oil level after refill is mid point between two marks before cranking the engine and just above the lower mark after cranking. Of course will check again once on the water.
- checked batt connections, hoses, clamps, and fittings and all look good. Looked around the engine bay and plugs area.

To squeeze or not to squeeze a few pumps in the shaft bearing is the Q? I know, it’s debatable at 10 hrs but don’t have grease at the moment so no squeeze today anyway but maybe later. I need to buy some marine grease. Does Yamaha have their own marine grease brand? Searched for it but nothing came up?

I didn’t change the plugs as I wanted to run some engine RPM tests on the water with just fresh oil at the right level, I may change the plugs after that though I know it’s not required at 10 hrs.

I almost balked at $150 kit.....then realized you had a twin. I just bought the oil change kit, 4plugs for my single AND a new bilge pump for $190.

I change my plugs yearly. Cheap insurance they're in good shape, and gives me a look at them to check for water or oil intrusion into the cylinders.

Otherwise.....good work!

yes twins and the kit was oil, filters, and plugs.

Agree, that’s always a good habit and I’ve done that with my previous boat.
For this one, I took delivery last Sep (2019) and the boat only saw 2 hours last year and about 10 hours this year so the plugs are still new and less than a year old. Since I fogged the engines last year to winterize (I know this is a debatable topic for winterizing but I did anyway even though I never did my previous boat) I am going to change them but after a few water run tests as I’d like to learn what affects what?

Mine required “30 CC’s of grease”, which equated to 30 pumps with my gun. I figured that out by seeing how many pumps it took to fill up a 5 milliliter measuring spoon. It took five pumps. 1 CC = 1ml

@ZGhost, I mentioned this in another thread, but I did roughly 15 pumps into my intermediate bearings on each side. My dealer said to do one and from there I've read here up to 40. Unfortunately as I'm sure you've found out there is no good consensus on what to do with them. I read a few said do it until you feel resistance and the tube from the zirk getting firm to the bearing. I got to about 15 and felt significant resistance so I stopped. I took a mirror and checked each bearing after a few hours of running and I don't see any grease busting out of them and the grease lines feel firm. So I called it good on that for me anyway. Sorry if it adds to the confusion of what to do/not to do.

Edit: Yamaha does have their own grease and this is what I used.

Thanks @minn19, I’ll probably put 7 to 8 pumps only. Will be ordering this yamaha grease. I wasn’t using the correct keywords in my search.
