I have not tracked down all the leaks but the cables that go to the direction flipper.....what ever you call it, I see the bellows are trashed on the cables.....where do I get those? Anyone ? thanks !
Good day Sir,
I have a 2002 sugar sand tango that has the 175 in it, also seem to have a leak somewhere, Hull is solid and also have one bellows on the steering cable that is Split in the middle. Is there a good website you can recommend to find part numbers? It looks to be the same bellows as the shift side, however measuring it makes me think it is a longer bellows or at least should be to prevent the over stretching and breaking in the middle. Do you know if it is in fact the same bellows, I have had no luck searching around for the exact listed part number.
Are you aware of any other places around the jet unit that may cause a leak? How about where the cables go through the metal plate and into the boat, I can see what looks to be a gasket or some type of seal in there but it doesn’t look like it will keep water completely out, I am thinking of putting silicone around those, is this a poor decision? I can send pictures when I get home tomorrow. On the road now and trying to get parts ordered soon so I can fix the problem ASAP.
At any rate, you seem to be the go to guy on here and would appreciate any help, or places to find good technical publications on the boats equipment. I did find the annual service link you had on another posting, to the mercury jet drive that was quite helpful, but still looking for a publication that lists the part numbers.
Thanks in advance!
Lucas
I've had good luck with this place. Boats.net: Outboard Motors, OEM Marine Parts, Boats for Sale click on the Mercury links and you can find Sportjet parts diagrams. there are others that are similar if you google sportjet parts, even Merc but they tend to be higher priced. As far as the leaks I'm not going to be much help, in 17seasons with my Mirage I've never had a leak [ knock on wood] My daughters Merc powered SeaDoo did develope a leak at the gasket where the hull and pump mate up and my son's Tango would take on water when sitting, that was apparently caused by the vacuum break on the bilge syphon being clogged, at least he never mentioned it again after I cleaned it. the syphon is the hose lying loose in the bilge, there is a pin hole vent in the plastic union on top of motor, it prevents a reverse syphon from starting when engine is shut off. That's about the extent of my leak experience but any where anything goes though the hull is suspect. Also check exhaust hoses, there is water going through them and they also go below the water line. Don't think silicone can hurt

Thanks so much! The diagrams on boats.net really helped. Also may be the problem with my siphon, I need to check it out but it also seems to be coming in on the side of my siphon hose. At least a place to start. I really do appreciate your time and help on this!
