2007 SR230 - Need Guidance on Possible Purchase

Looking for general advice on what to look for when looking at a 2007 230SR.

I have a buddy in Nashville looking at a boat listed for $9,190. The price seems awful low to me. He only has 3 pictures listed, so no way to tell anything until he gets eyes on the boat.

What things should he look for to avoid buying someone else problems.

Thanks for any advice and guidance.

I do not believe there was a SR230 in 2007. I believe those were limited to 2004 - 2005. Possibly 2003 as well.

The pictured hull and gauges are from a 2007+ SX230.

The upgraded trailer has a few thousand dollar value on its own.

I found a spreadsheet that shows differences in models by year and there is a '07 SR. Doesn't make sense though as gauges are for HO MR1's but comparison doesn't list the engines as an upgrade that year. Decals say SR but doesn't match gauges.

He's close, so he's gonna look at it.

Any tips on things to specifically check into?

There are stickers under the engines near the starters that document their output. Pictures of the top cover of the engine should answer that question as well.

I wonder what the difference is between the SR and SX?

The SR may have three level throttles which would be a downside but not a concern at the price.

I would want to water test her and look for a 46+ mph GPS indicated top speed and 10,200 max RPMs on the engines. The factory speedo is not GPS.

Sx was HO

This should be more than a one trip and buy

Once he confirms there really is a boat then let's talk about yds or water test

Call!! Everything 2007+ is HO. If its legit he may not know what he has. In my humble BS-o-meter listing looks like 5% chance of this listing being honest and true as shown

95% chance as shown..It's a scam at $9K The trailer alone is $3K so if real it would be a great deal. Description looks more or less legit, it's the pictures that throw me off. Let us know what you hear back!!

I found my gem on Craiglist (2008 SX23) in less than stellar condition and ended up with an "unbelievable" deal. so they do exist.

(I noticed the boat pictured appears to have the fuel gauge stuck on full...mine did that and it was the gauge and not the float that was broke.)

All is good. I get it, phones are not the best devices for looking stuff up with my old eyes. I was bored last night, watching Braveheart for the umpteenth time. Decided to do a search on a boat that I previously did not know exixted. I love self edgumacation.

Aw, crap. If we were supposed to make these types of disclaimers, I should just put this in my sig block... It definitely applies to all of mine.

It definitely can happen that a great deal is a great deal. But one must be careful for the scam. If there is not a title, the 'real' owner is overseas or anything hinky like that, I would run. But if the owner is there, just doesn't know what he has (or what it is worth) and is just trying to get out of owning it, and it floats and goes and there are no leaks (water or oil) or holes or anything evident, I would say that might be something to go for.

Yes, there is a lot more you can do (and normally should do) to check out a boat (YDS, leakdown tests, etc.). But if the trailer is worth $3k and they are asking $9k, you can probably even part out the rest and make a mint if you needed to. Even replacing an engine you are probably way ahead of the game. You have to know that may be what you are in for, though.
