Hello all,
I am new to the forum and to jet boating all together. I have a question regarding the engines particularly the starboard engine shutting off at around 8 and 9k rpm, after a few times of this happening after hitting the water and going through restart, the motor will eventually stop doing it for the rest of the day while in use off and on.
The cooling system is working well for both engines and there are no other symptoms or warning signs. Has anyone else had issue with this happening.

Check the switches in the cleanout hatch, one may be set too low and when you hit a wave the hatch may lift just enough to kill the engine..

You can test this by taping a quarter to the underside of the hatch where the switch is and run the boat for a while. If that solves the problem, you can then remove the access cover in the middle of the tray and readjust the switch.

It could also be your negative battry cable being just loose enough to cause it to stall
Personal experience with this

Thank you for the information I will test this tomorrow on the lake, and let y’all know. It does make sense as the latch for that compartment on the starboard side does not catch properly, so I’ll also adjust that latch to catch properly.

Sorry just getting back with y’all, it was the switches, thank you all for the help!

Just a FYI Dave. Look very closely at the plastic nuts holding your hatch switches in place. I had two plastic nuts that were cracked allowing the switches to drop down just out of adjustment. I believe the problem is caused by letting the hatch drop too hard. I finally replaced them with stainless steel nuts.

That’s exactly what happened the nut cracked. Back on water now seemed to fix that problem now the port motor won’t go above 6k rpm. Starboard motor running fine. Trying to mess with it now.

Have you changed the spark plugs? The MR-1 motors are very touchy about spark plugs.

I was told when I bought it about 4 weeks ago it was fully serviced, but I cannot verify 100%. Based on what I’m reading and you asking I will be changing if them tomorrow for sure, new to het boating but kinda having rough start lol. The boat is really well maintained and only has 86 hours on motors, didn’t think it would be this way

Had the boat out 4 times and the only issue before this was the switches

Make sure you use NGK CR9EB plugs. Properly gapped. Many minor engine issues such as yours have been resolved with a proper plug change. Also check your air filter. It's very common for the oil to be overfilled causing it to blow back on the air filter. If you find oil covering your air filter it will have to be changed.
