hi everyone. My last outing of the season last year the speedometer wouldn’t move. I am new to the boat and was told there might be a wheel that spins or maybe water that goes into a hose. Can anyone tell me what to look for andHow to fix it

Was it working before?
I believe there should be a paddle wheel on the back of your boat. Make sure it spins free. If that doesn't do it and you've checked everything else I would go with a GPS speedometer either in a chart plotter or something like this Faria Chesepeake Black Ss 4

Your boat will have a pilot tube on the rear that works off of water pressure, it may be clogged or damaged. There is a small tube that goes from the pilot to to the speedo, you can check to see if it's still attached.

It looks like this.

The one on my old boat got clogged one time cleaned it out and it worked fine

Thank you yes I do have that pilot tube plastic piece on the back. I will take a look at it. How did you go about unclogging the tube, did you blow compressed air into it or something of that nature

also look on the back of the speedometer as the tubes were notorious for falling off and soaking everything behind the dash as well

Removed the speedo and paddle wheel and replaced ours in 2016 with a Perfect Pass PrecisionSTAR gps speedo. Since, it has been discontinued. The unit has worked great. Highest speed was 48.8 mph. A lot of gps replacement options out there now for the Dreamometer if not repairable.

If there's something in the pilot tube you can try using a drill bit by hand, the clog will usually only be in the hard white plastic part.

thank you very much

You need to connect the power supply and light to the existing wiring, and you also need to make a knot on the water pilot tube going to the current gauge that won't be used anymore, to prevent water from coming in through there.

The gauge is self contained, so there is no external antenna. Just 3 wires if I remember correctly: Ground, Power (+) and light(+).
