Just about to buy an AR190 with 50hrs, looks in great condition.

Will do on water test next weekend.

This will be our first boat, hoping the kids will learn to wake board. 14 & 15 yrs girls.

Hope we are making the right choice to go with a jet boat.

Am interested in other owners views on what to lookout for during the test, pros and cons?

Congrats. Update your location has the boat been in salt water? If in salt water ask about flushing did the do this evertime? In regards to flushing boat on/water on/water off/boat off. Never run water while the boat is off. Honesty if the boat looks in good shape, check the oil (make sure clean non milky) check the clean out port, go for a drive to make sure everything works and enjoy. I would take a quick look at the engine bay while the motor is running. I would ask how often they changed the oil and had it serviced. Did they do it themselves or take it some place. If the plugs have not been changed I would do that as well. I'm sure someone will maybe give you a few other suggestions.

Thanks for your helpful reply.

Will follow up with the seller on these items.
Yes the boat has been used in salt water but I understand always taken out and washed through after each use.

What sort of mechanical issues can occur which I should lookout for?

So, @SCP1 mentioned “flushing”.

If you’re new to Yamaha jetboats/skis, you may not be familiar with that term. It is related to the engine cooling system. In a nutshell, the engines suck up a bit of water from the jet tube and run that through the engine for cooling. The water that you should see spewing out the side of the boat while running is a visual indicator stream so you can see that cooling water is flowing through the engines.

Running in salt water means that salt water is getting sucked up in the engines. That’s fine, but the flush process should be used after boating to remove the salt residue from the inside of the engine. I believe many use a salt dissolver product as well as fresh water.

So, it’s more than just hosing out the boat and wiping it down. Make sure the flush process has been done regularly, too. I’m sure it has, but wanted to make sure everyone is on the same page as far as terminology.

Good luck!

Boat arrives this coming week - we took second test ride today.
Really pleased with the decision, now time to think about the summer.
Thanks for feedback.

Congratulations! I boat my first boat last year which was an AR190. No regrets what so ever. My daughter age 5 learned how to kneeboard and couldn't get her off the board by the end of the summer. My son age 8 rocked the wakeboard all summer long. Enjoy the summer!
