I got a 2014 fx svho crusier timing chain went at 255hrs we got it done and we couldn’t find the chain in the bottom of the engine we got magnets snd stuff and didn’t find anything we put almost and hour on it and nothing major happend just little stuff happend if i ran it for a hour would the timing chain already cycle through or would it work. will maybe the oil filter catch it?

Any debris should remain in oil pan ……the oil pump should have a screen on pick any large pieces wont enter pump to get to oil filter.

So you left the bottem end in the ski and just did the top end and chain and put together without getting the chain out?
There is no way I would have put it together without making sure I got all the broken pieces out. If you hit a bunch of rough waves or launch it that chain will bounce around and get caught up in the crank.
These engines don't have oil pans, just the bottem case half which doesn't have much room

We did not find anything we didn’t open bottom but we got a magnet and we could find anything i already put an hour on the ski no problems how long would it take

Do you mean the whole chain is in the bottom end or just possibly pieces?

Ok I get it now, thought originally it was the whole chain

My pulse returned to normal too, thought the whole chain had been left sloshing around. Glad it all worked out.

I wouldn’t be that dumb to leave the whole chain in there ?

So what happened? I wouldn't risk it as the bottom engine could have sustained damage especially to crankshaft gear. I just changed out my engine as a new head was as much as getting a used newer model engine. From what I've read and talked to mechanics 2013 thru to early 205s had weak timing chains. Mine snapped at just over 200 hrs and engine was in good shape.

Biggest risk would be in a waverunner and it flipped the piece could end up in a bad spot.
These engines are easy to unbolt and tip to one side. If it was me i would have made sure as hell i got every piece out.
The damage it could cost is more than taking the extra time to get it out.
