Hi this is my first post on the forum and I have to say this forum has been really helpful so far. I have a 2014 195 HOI and it gives me problems when starting. It usually takes two tries before it'll start. the first time it just cranks then the second time it cranks for a while then it starts. Once it starts it runs great. Is this normal on this boats? Any ideas? this is my first scarab boat, bought it used. Thank you.

When was the last time the spark plugs were changed? How old is the battery? I'd get new spark plugs first and go from there.

spark plugs and battery were changed last week. I thought the same thing but it didn't help. at least I know I have a new battery and fresh spark plugs now lol

Hows the Gas? Has it been in the tank for some time, possible contamination with water or just getting old?

When I first bought the boat the dealer stored it with less than a quarter tank. I filled it up with 91 octane. I thought maybe dirty injectors or fuel line so I put some injector cleaner and octane booster in the tank to see if it helps anything but still nothing.

Not totally sure with the BRP Engines, but the usual suspects on the Yamaha's to look into are:
  • Spark plugs - when in doubt change them
  • Fuel - always store with a full tank and Sea-Oil (or similar)
  • Check your safety Lanyard - is it fully seated in its switch?
  • Clean-out port hatch switch - I know the BRP engines don't have clean out ports, but if there's any hatch on your boat that has a 'safety engine kill switch' check it out. On the Yamaha's, one common ailment is the switch gets out of adjustment and taping a quarter or two where it hits the deck opposite it can give you an indication if it's out of adjustment.
  • Batteries - check your connections. Make sure they are tight. Make sure you have 12.5+ volts in the batteries. Try disconnecting the ground from both batteries, let them sit for 5-10 minutes, then reconnect as this may clear gremlins out of the electronics and get you a true-fresh reboot.
  • Check and see if there are any other fuses or master switches that may have tripped ad need reset.
I hope that helps. Let us know what you find...
