Hi everyone,

Wife and I are looking at a 2014 and 2016 212X (and also a 2016 AR240).

Engine hours and options are mostly the same across the board.

I'm mostly wondering if there are significant differences in the 2014 vs 2016 212Xs. From what I've read, 2017 was the year for significant revisions. Haven't seen too many comparisons for earlier model years.

Regarding the 2016 AR240 the pros over the 212s I see are:
- Size
- Articulated keel
- Updated helm electronics

Is there anything else significant?

Thanks in advance for all comments.

keel and timing chain

Was there an issue with the timing chains on the 212Xs?

Please do a quick search, as it's very well documented. This is not a 212x issue, it was a 1.8ltr engine issue.

Technical Service Bulletin (no recall) issues for late build 2014, early build 2015 1.8ltr engines. Most will downplay the issue unless it happened to them. The quantity of failures over the entire range of 1.8's were very low. But for that time period specifically, Yamaha recognized the need for a TSB, but not for a recall. That should tell you, that it was an issue, but not to worry yourself to death over.

Any dealer can pull it up by Hull ID, or Engine serial number to see if it was addressed. The TSB said original owners could get repairs if it failed. This does not apply to secondary owners, or if no failure occurred.

That's it in a nutshell.

Thanks for the help - great information.

do a search on timing chains of 2014 1800 engines plenty of info on it I am pretty busy

Your right about the 2017s
I have the pain in the a$$ folding Monster Tower, no connext, no hinged seats, no added keel.
No engine issues yet..over 100 hours.
