So first time out on the water was pretty much a disaster. Boat struggled to get to 25mph and then at times I could barely get to 10mph. Boat just seemed to struggle. I’ve already done spark plugs, oil, and rebuilt the clean out plugs.
So I feel I should be going faster than 25mph when both engines are at 6k rpm and if I push it more then they just don’t react at all.
I’ve checked for any obstructions and everything seems clear. I feel like it’s something simple and want to try and figure it out before hauling it to a Yamaha dealership.
Any thoughts?

How old is the fuel?
Well the fuel was filled with Stabil added in before being winterized by the last owner. I picked it up with the same full tank in April. So at least 6 months old.

I’d start there since both engines seem to be behaving the same, right?
It’s more the starboard engine that keeps having issues. It will sometimes just rev up but is putting out no power and then after a few minutes of seeming to be straining it will feel more normal and have some push behind it. We have been the first to use it since last season.

Look at those cleanout plugs. Are they fully seated?

Pulled them out and reset them a few times. Felt nice and secure. I rebuilt them with new seals before taking it out. One was stuck and the other wouldn’t set, when I bought it.

Your engines should be maxing out at 7600 rpm doing about 50 mph max.

since you have already relaxed the spark plugs id take a closer look at the coils, fuel injector leads and probaby do a compression test. It sounds to me like your only getting power out of 3 of 4 cylinders per engine.

That’s starting to be my concern. I’ll try that next and see what the results are. Thanks.

Any vibrations while underway?? How do your impellers look? Nice & clean leading edges?

Also check the air filters make sure they’re not wet or damp. Remove them and run the boat without them to see what RPMs you get. I had a problem 2 years ago and since I remove the air filters everything is running great for the last two years.

So you’ve just been running it without the air filters for the last two year?

I’ll need to check the edges. It does feel like some vibrations. The video I have on my phone is a .MOV file so I can’t post it here. Almost like a rattling sound.

Yes I’ve been running without air filters for the last two years. There’s a guy on this forum and he also has a YouTube channel his name is Rob I got that advice from him and I never had a problem ever Sense.

Just check them drive the boat without them and you gonna feel the difference you will know the difference because you know how the boat is acting.
