2017 AR195 No Wake Mode isssues

Hello all!

I just got my boat out of winterization and drove it down to my new Florida home. I’ve noticed the past two days that my No Wake Mode doesn’t seem to be operating as I remember it. I looked in the owners manual to see if I was missing something but I am following what it says exactly and it isn’t working right.

When I put the lever into TDE and press the + sign on the switch it’s about a 20% engagement. Then once it finally does engage it takes me hitting the + or - sign multiple times before it does what I’m expecting it to do. I read on other threads to check the switch and the battery connection which I will tomorrow but I wanted to see if anyone had any advice. I really want it to be user error but I’m afraid it seems it’s not. One thing I will add is that I’ve noticed some moisture in my gauges that wasn’t there at the end of the season last year so I’m worried the marina didn’t take the best care of the boat throughout the winter. Thanks in advance. Also, the only mods I have are LED strip lights running off the battery. Nothing else. Thanks again.

What do your mean engagement? The only mechanical thing in the first detent is the bucket moves up a little. The rest is all electronic.

If in TDE (first detent either forward or reverse) you should have 3 different levels of RPM "No Wake Mode". Once beyond the first detent and 3k RPM (IIRC) your No Wake Mode turns into "Cruise Assist" where you have a RPM-based cruise control. In theory it should go up to 7k RPM IIRC. Mine sometimes takes a few extra taps to get it beyond 6200 RPM. It's been like that since day 1 for me. I rarely use CA at that high of RPM so it's not really a concern for me. I have another boat buddy who has an AR195 and his No Wake Mode and Cruise Assist stopped working shortly after he bought his boat. He's in the Air Force so I have no idea if he ever got that fixed or not. I'm sure I'll see him this season on the water and I'll try to remember to ask him if he got it fixed and what the cause was. The switches on these boats are run of the mill cheap switches but it would be easy to buy a new switch to see if that fixes it. If it doesn't then it could be something in the ECM.

I mean just that. Whether it’s electric or mechanical the No Wake Mode isn’t operating correctly. I have it in the TDE detent. I’m aware there are three modes and that’s why I know it’s not working properly. It shouldn’t take seven clicks of the switch to get it to change from speed 1 to 2, or vice versa. The boat only has 33 hours on it. I’m worried moisture got in the switch over the winter.

Correct.
You do not have PerfectPass installed by any chance, do you? Those have caused some No Wake gremlins on occasion.
Is the "No Wake" showing on the speedo/tach (I don't remember what it looks like in the singles)? If it is, you are in the correct indent and should only need one click to toggle between No WAke 1, 2, 3, and it should also allow you to go between forward and reverse without turning the No Wake (TDE) off - which is a nice feature.
@Mainah - do you have any ideas? (the man has literally reverse-engineered the Yamaha cruise assist; twice)

It sounds like voltage is the issue. Make sure connections are tight and batteries are healthy/charged.

I just went this morning to the lift to tighten up the battery connections. Weather has been poor so I’ll give you guys an update when the weather breaks. I really do think it’s a voltage issue because when I launched the boat to drive it to the lift it was all working fine but I had the negative to my LED’s disconnected. So when we got it on the lift I put the negative back on and was having issues getting the lights on. I played with the terminals a bit and got it all fired up and that’s when the issues started the next day. Hoping it’s all fine now. Really don’t think anything is broken. The boat only has like 33 hours on it. Just trying to avoid a 35 mile trip to the Yamaha dealership.

Went out today after tightening and rearranging the battery terminal connections and leaving the cover off for a day to let the boat air out. Seems to have fixed the issue. Had perfect response from the switch all day. Would chalk this one up as a voltage or moisture issue.
