Hi all...

Ive been doing a little searching and can't find the right spark plugs for my engines.
2017 SX210, TR1 engines.
Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

you shouldn't need one... they last literally for ever

ok I have to admit I did change my spark plugs for the trip. However, old one was good as new at 90hrs

Not sure about TR1's, but both of my skis and my FSH with the 1.8's definitely needed replacement plugs early on. My CA emissions ski needed before 20 hours. Neither of the other 2 made it to 50 without needing them. My 242 never showed any signs, but I changed them quite often in that one anyway with the Bimini trip and all.

i was thinking id change them before this season having broke the boat in last year...unless the consensus is to leave them?

I'm still on my original plugs at 65 hours and no issues with them. But this being my third boating season I am going to replace them just for a fresh set. I'll take pics when I do to compare but when I've periodically inspected them they looked fine and performed fine. This is on a boosted boat. I also never fog my engine.

For the record, I'm at 100+ hrs, third set of plugs, oil and filter changed every 25-30 hrs.

My take on it is: why not? Doesn't cost a fortune, not a whole lot of work, and - it's fun!

@swatski, im with you...ive learnt more on this boat than i ever have before on my old boats...i enjoy learning and doing the maintenance myself...do you know what plugs are called for?

Following.

@LeeFlan7 can you just pull one out and try to get a # off of one?

I would but I won’t get home till dark

I would, but, it’s locked up in the marina yard with a big old tarp wrapped around it!

That makes sense.

My daughters JetSki is in our garage if I can get home at a decent time I’ll try to pull one of those plugs out. Her ski has a TR1 motor as well

That would be great but there is no need to go out of your way...I’m just starting to prep for spring

I didn’t see any 2017 sx 210s on sportsplaza site but recalled that the ex waverunners use the same tr1 motor and found that the stock plugs are ngk cr9eb. See part 1 in the screen shot below. These are the same plugs used in the 140hp and 160hp mr1 motors. So a few alternatives are the cr9eix (iridium) which are installed in my fx160 and the cr9ek (dual electrode) which I just installed in my fx140. See the second screenshot below.

The rep at my local Power sports shop recommended that I use cr9eb if I plan to replace the plugs annually or more often but they didn’t have any in stock so I went with the ek instead (my first set). Whether the eix performs better than the eb I don’t know, on paper it does but I can’t tell the difference on the water or at the gas station. The eix and ek do cost about twice as much as the eb and both require screw on caps at the end which plugs into the ignition coil so don’t forget to pick up some with these plugs if you use them. I think they are 25 cents each.

I change my plugs annually. Last year I put about 85 hours on the boat. For the cost of 8 plugs and an hour of my time, I know I typically won't have to deal with plug issues when out. I do however carry a spare set of plugs and tools to change them...just in case.

to answer @LeeFlan7 question, look down around the engine hatch, around the side walls of the engine room, or even remove one of the plastic covers on an engine. Typically Yamaha puts a decal there that lists the engine, plug type and plug gapping. I'd take a picture of mine however, my boat is in storage for the winter (2 hours away).

I do approx 50-60 hrs per season on the boat so im tempted to try the iridium plugs, im going to change them out this year and then go for every other season

I do the same thing feeling that the plugs cost twice as much they should last twice as long. It doesn’t take many cycles to realize that the plugs would last a lot longer than two years (think about how long they last in cars), so I just keep the last set as spares and have only had to use the spares once in 15 years (my first jet boat, powered by a 175 hp Mercury sport). Once bitten 15 years shy, so far.
