2018 21' Models

I was considering trading in my boat last year for an 21' or similar Yamaha after the introduction of the articulated keel and decided to wait till they got the bugs worked out in the new engines. What in the heck happened? The new 2018 21' Yamaha's are ugly as sin. They actually went backwards. I don't even care for the 212. Really disappointed by their designs. If the other brands didn't have the rotax engine I would be all over them. The SX210 and AR210 are the worst. The 17 was pretty nice looking. It's almost as if they wanted to make them look crappier to boost sells of higher models. Long story short, I guess I will wait at least another year. I guess that's one of the bad things about a mass production builder with limited options.

Not sure I'd go so far as to say they are ugly as sin, but plain for sure. The 212 limited is the best of the lot, but still not good looking like many of their prior boats like that 2016 242X

Good point. I went to far with the ugly as sin, but to spend 41-60k on a boat and have it that plain seems almost crazy. I wish I could afford a boat like yours, a truck to pull it and a garage big enough to store it. Very nice.

My coworker bought an AR210 last year and he is pretty disappointed in the overall performance of the boat. He said it struggles when you add some weight to it. Just thought I would throw that info in here in case it is of concern to you.

actually prefer a bit of "plain" all those busy graphics make them look cheap (and fit in the "yamahas are oversized jetskis" comments I hear sometimes.

I mourn the loss off the SS twin 180 hp model though.... don't care for the towers(especially in blue) or the biminis on them. this is just from checking them out in a showroom though...

now as far as the color.... Yacht blue is best.

I was on the fence about a 210 but ended up with a 195 (a comment like this makes me feel like I made the right decision). If I could of fit it in my garage I probably would of got the 210 though.

I have a 2017 AR210 and I’ve never felt as though it was struggling.

I have a family 5, we boat in an around the bays and up river. We always have all kinds of gear (coolers, fold out table and chairs, tubes). I’ve never felt it struggle. We wakeboard all the time. From a dead stop, she jumps right up quickly.

Once the break in period was over, it quickly planes off and has no problem doing mid 40’s WOT (43-46mph). And that’s in the bay with 1-2’ chop and usually windy from all directions.

It may not have the nicest trim or audio “system”, but I also paid under $40k.

i agree with @jeff_s . ive been researching the yamaha jet boat line for over a year now until i pulled the trigger on a 18 sx210 ($38k OTD). I think yamaha does a good job of offering a wide range of boating options when it comes to Cost. Which makes boating available to many. im sure that there are some research specs but im almost positive they sell more SX/AR base models than they do the higher end models. I for one was inlove with the 212s and the ar240 but i had to come to a realization that i was not going to myself in financial distress in buying a boat i could not afford none less get the amount use that would justify the cost. Now Im in Miami and I can practically boat all year round and i still went with the sx210 becasue for me i felt that i could build the boat to my satisfaction and my own rate where it is finacially feasible. with that said i have a 18 sx20 with upgrades surpassing that of a 212s fora a fraction of the cost.

Good point Peter A. The SX210 is what I wanted. I had two considerations, my garage and budget. I couldn't fit the tower in the garage and really could care less about it. I would have bought the tower only for resale. I ended up buying an I/O and honestly I am happy with it, but the layout of the SX210 would have given me more room. Actually I would love an inboard, but the price is just insane for those and frankly I am not paying 50-80k for a 2000+ hour boat so that I can surf. I am glad you like the 18 SX210.

It's confusing because they also have a Limited S with a tower and the X with a tower and ballast and other bells and whistles.

thanks for giving me a pass, but Ive looked at the website at least 20 times...

if I Could pick a favorite... and build how I like....Id take that 242x above.... but without the giant tower and sunshade. and some other bells and whistles. solar panels and wired throttle etc.. all that stuff is cool, but more designed for the folks who live on the water, not tow to it.

The color is sweet. and the interior is really nice with blue accents.

Dang I would think the 210 would go faster the AR240 since they are the same engines I thought? I see 47-49 all day with max load.

210 has the twin TR-1s the 212 and AR 240 models (all 24 footers) have the twin 1.8L HOs

We got a 2017 sx195 and happy with performance. Any less would be not enough for me. Half throttle below 4k she is still slow but above that she is running hard and great speed. Its either 15- 20mph or 42+ no middle point lol 7400 rpms WOT she 54mph 52-53 in some chop.
