Poated in general, but not getting any responses...My 2018 242x starboard motor won't start. New batteries and port motor starts fine. Get a clicking when trying to start starboard motor, but it won't fire. Where should I start on diagnostics?
Since originally posted i have also changed the starter relay on the starboard motor and still having the same problem.

1. can you turn the pump shaft? try putting a strap wrench on the coupler and see if the pump or engine is locked up.
2. You could also try pulling the pump to see if the engine will turn over.

Anything electrical to check first?

A little additional background.
This has happened 2 times now after hanging out at a sandbar for the day. The last time it happened, I changed the batteries and everything was back to normal.
This time it happened on the new batteries. Just to be safe, I tested the batteries and the house battery came weak so I exchanged it and put the new house battery in. Still wouldn't start and that is when I decided to try a new relay on that motor.

In general with new, fully charged batteries and even playing the stereo for 2-3 hours, at the sound bar, not sure you even doing that, but, your batteries should not be run down that fast.

Maybe if the batteries are a little low, the starter is sticking slightly on the starboard engine and will not engage (clicking sound)

I have never changed out the starter on mine as never had a an issue, but if its not to hard, switch the starter from the port engine to starboard and see if it starts?

Sounds like something is draining your batteries. Maybe double check the battery wiring hookups. I have seen allot of post on here where they were wrong and creating all kinds of issues.

Good luck.

I agree. With you’re recent history of electrical issues. Check battery connections. Then look at the wiring going to each engine from the battery. Especially wiring going to the starter and the ground straps. Also, not sure if there’s a way on your engine to do this, but you could try running power directly to the starter to see if it will turn over.

Clicking and no start is how my Starter Solenoid/relay started to go. Thought it was battery at first. It progressed in a number of weeks to almost not starting. The ECU box of mine has a window to let you troubleshoot. I think yours may not. Can you take a picture of your electrical box? (The one hanging in the back wall of the engine) Perhaps locate the starter relay in the parts diagram?Access to it will give you an easy way to power on the starter directly from the battery and will allow you to check the health of the relay.

Certainly sounds electrical.....like you have a short somewhere that is draining your battery.....

Since port is fine and starboard has problems, I'm going to make an adventurous statement and say... It's not a battery charge problem.

Is there a diagram available that is known to be the correct way to wire, so that i can check that off?

I put a new starter relay in today and it is still doing the same thing.

Ouch, so sorry. Did you confirm the starter powered every time that you bridged the 2 big wires going to the starter? The starter circuit has 4 main parts (exclusive of the wiring) battery, key switch signal, starter relay and starter. Confirming the starter bench tested OK (or replaced with a new one) next check would be ensuring you see full voltage at the energized cable in the relay.

Could be a loose cable or the starter. Because the other engine starts always I think it's not the battery, but I could be wrong.

EDIT: To be on the same page, you replaced part number 21 on this diagram right?

Correct. Part #21 replaced. Also switched the start buttons to confirm it wasn't that.

Did you have a chance to bridge the cables going to the relay by hand to confirm the starter spun every time? At least you know it's not the relay!

I did not do that. Wasn't sure that I could do that without causing another problem.

In theory it accomplishes the same thing the relay does, so not sure you would learn anything new by having done it.

OK so I had the same problem Port engine would not start (clicking).
So jiggled wires beneath Battery disconnect and it started.
I removed Battery switches from carpeted side board and ALL of the nuts with lock washers were loose!
Obviously the factory forgot to torque them down.
