Hi everyone! New to the forum and I just acquired a 100 hr 2019 Limited S. I plan to install a couple amps, DSP, and subs this weekend while retaining the stock Polk speakers. I have the 6 RCA out adapter for the Fusion HU and was wondering about accessibility to the speaker wiring. After reading up about how the cabin speakers are wired in series (and confirming the poor sound quality with my ears) I'd like to wire them to the amps correctly. Is the series connection at the Fusion head unit or buried somewhere in the harness (if so where)? Or does everyone abandon the stock speaker wires and run new wiring? I'm putting in 2 amps, a four channel for transom and tower speakers and a 5 channel for the cabin speakers and subs.

One more question: Can the touchscreen interface be reconfigured for sub control provided the subs are wired to the correct RCA out? I didn't see sub control on the display.

I appreciate any help and I apologize if this has been covered ad nauseam in other posts. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I ran completely new oxygen free copper wire. That was the advice of people when I did my upgrade a few years ago.

Re the sub, not sure about the Fusion but I have no control on the Connext screen. I set up a WS 420 SQ to give me zone control as well as the sub. Not sure if there's a better way now.

Thanks for the advice. I ran all new speaker wires and it was pretty easy. I also ran the gain knob that came with the amp to the Helm. The stock Polks actually sound pretty good with 70 watts of clean power and EQ + crossover.

I believe the series wiring was done at the cabin speakers but I don’t recall 100%.

I ran all new wire because the stock wire is very thin. The Polk speakers have one little skinny spade connector so make sure you have those available when you do it.

I added two more of the stock model Polk speakers closer to the helm seats and that made a big difference when driving too. Maybe you don’t need those with tower speakers.

That is a very interesting suggestion. My boat engines are extra loud because it has open aftermarket air filters. The speaker volume is enough now with the amps I can hear it up on plane but it could be better. Where did you put the speakers? In the black trim piece? I'm a bit afraid hole saw into the hull. I normally keep the volume down on zone 2 unless I'm towing or tied up. I have some flexibility for additional speakers because the amps I have can run at 2 ohm and I could wire some of the cabin speakers in parallel.

Thank you for posting this!

Get rid if your aftermarket air filters . They are just going to cause unnecessary bullspit. They have engineers that do alot of quality work at yamaha and i think you ahould trust the system on this one .

There are other threads on the topic around here. Some people put them down by their feet in the white fiberglass.

I put mine in the white gelcoat lower down. I considered hard whether to mount them higher but concluded it was just too tight to risk it. Probably wimped out but I don’t think the difference in sound is substantial.

I also used a harbor freight hole saw with a dewalt cordless drill and it worked well. I did start drilling backwards as others suggested and had no chipping at all.

I did the same as Dave Burke (I'm the white area below the console) several years ago. Reversing the drill first works well. Also suggest taping the area you are going to drill with blue painters tape. It's nerve wracking taking a large hole saw to your nicely finished fiberglass, but it ended up looking and sounding great. It's a great mod for the 212 and 242 boats.

Finally, I did one side with the inexpensive Harbor Freight hole saw, and then started on other side. By then the saw was so dull that 10 minutes into the second side, I was making virtually no progress. I went to the hardware store and spent twice as much on a really nice hole saw and finished the job in 30 seconds.
