Bought last season trailed back and forth to lake top speed 48mph 2 people calm lake. This year wet slipped and only have acces to marina 90 octane (ethanol free) boat will not go over 35mph with just me in boat Speed does not change from 7200 to 7400 rpms????

I’m currently having a similar issue with the same boat. I don’t have any solution yet though.

Last year my best gps speed was 50.4 (single person in the boat) but getting 46-48 wasn’t a problem. Just today my best gps speed was 43.5 @ 7350rpm, but most days it’s 40-42.

My boat is wet slipped although I just pulled and cleaned the hull 2 weeks ago. It probably has a little algae on it but shouldn’t be too bad.

I’ve checked and adjusted the throttle stop to make sure it’s maxed. Boating at sea level in fresh lake water.

@gallobg Oil Level? Air Filter's not filled with oil or clogged? If both those are good, swap in some fresh plugs(Check the Gap on each yourself) and see what happens. Check Pump and Impellor for any debris. If after that it is not getting up there then there is more too it.

@Nickel1 Check Pump and impellor first your speed is much more dramatic. Then do same as above. Eliminate the easiest things first.

** update **
Pulled it out did not find any debris in the pump or impellor. Power washed hull and intake great. Made sure no water I hull. Filled half the tank with 93 octane from Marathon gas station. Lake tested and now back to 48mph. ??

The 1.8’s run rich and are very tough on spark plugs.

Do not expect similar performance aka top speed / rpm from year to year with the same spark plugs. There are lots of searchable threads on this phenomenon. They need to be changed yearly low hous or not as crazy as that seems.

I tried to make it 2 years with the iridium ngks. Nope. Same top speed / rpm loss from year to year as the stock spark plugs.

my 242 is wet slipped
At 4300 altitude, max speed was 44mph
After the 1st season the boat kept getting slower 32mph the same lake empty 2 passengers.
This is what I found today. Pulled one pump apart.
One blade has cavitation burns, I need to do the other pump and give it a test run but it looks to me major points for cavitation with all the hard water.

Finally got our boat out on the lake after cleaning the hard water off the impellers and wear ring I was able to get a max a 42mph on a hot muggy day 4300 feet of elevation, just cleaning the hard water our boat is performing much better.
