Hi all newbe here. 2020 AR190 less than 20 hrs on it. Wrapped a tow rope around the impeller today. We figured its easier to pull the pump. All bolts out pump wont budge loose. All the you tube videos..really only 1 or 2 show some with silicone sealant around the pump housing and some without. Perhaps this is what is keeping it from coming out easy? First time pulling this so its new to me. Before i put a screwdriver to the casting split area and tap a little is there something that I may be missing on this brand new design? I had outboards previously..easy as pie to work on. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

I’ve not had to pull mine but I think there are little tabs cast into the pump that you can pry on without hurting it.
I believe the splined shaft can get a little stuck from suction and grease as well.

Well here's the update. The rope wasn't wrapped around the props so that was good. We were able to cut it from the outside very close to the prop fin as it was wedged against the fin and side of the prop housing. The rope was polypropylene so I torched it with a small soldering torch and melted the rope and my son pulled it out from the clean out hole. Cleaned up fin area, actually removed the melted rope blob and we are now good to go again. Started and ran with no problem.

However, there is a learning part of this. The 2020 is a 3 piece split pump casing on the outside of the transom. The bucket comes off in one piece with 4- 14 mm bolts even with the Cobra Jet Steering --which I highly recommend for these boats night and day difference in steering--and then there is another housing with the props in them that blots to another housing that bolts to the transom. Well the bucket housing came off very easy even tho there was a grey silicone between the 2 casings. However, the prop housing wouldn't budge to pull the prop and shaft when the 4-14mm bolts and 1- 10mm bolt were removed. And this boat is brand spanking new. So, I know it HAS TO come out/apart somehow, just wondering what type tool is required to pull it. There are no tabs to help with the separation. Plus it looks like there is a very thin gasket between these 2 pieces so I'm wondering if it is just really good gasket sealer holding it from popping loose. Yamaha also put a plastic cover that is bolted to the bottom of the boat at the transom area that makes it very difficult if not impossible to get something to the casing to try to split the 2 apart. And this piece is loaded with a very industrial sealer that appears that they don want you to take it off as its oozing in the bolt holes and around the edges of the cover.

So, if anyone has pulled the pump on a 2020 yet, kindly jump in on this.

Thanks,

Mark

Surprised no one is replying.

You can get service manuals here. Either paper or short term/long term electronic access. YAMAHA MANUAL STORE

I think it’s probably just stuck. I’ve seen other threads where people will thread a couple of the outer bolts back in to attach a chain or something to the housing and then use a slide hammer or I’ve even seen a car used to pull it off (probably not the best idea!)
