Must admit I’m thrilled they are bringing back RWD and ditching FWD!

Should be interesting to see what the powertrain and ratings are. Perhaps a 5.0 under the hood?

No biggest motor is 3.0 V6 twin turbo and 10 speed transmission. Max tow rating 5,600.

Not terrible for an explorer I guess.

You could get the 3.5 ecoboost and now they are going smaller? Makes no sense.
Current trailer was 5000 pounds and I am sure motor would yank around like nothing. Suspension may be different when switching to RWD, but I would think it would share with the new ranger coming out which can tow 7,000+ pounds. Something seems off, unless they are just waiting to see how things look and then introduce more options?

On that link they have an ST version as well with a 400 hp version. You telling me 400 hp and towing capacity stays 5000? Wierd. Probably an ecoboost motor.

Tow rating probably has little to do with the motor, and more to do with the frame and trailer hitch. My 2018 F-150 has the max trailer tow package, high payload package, class IV receiver hitch, with the 3.5 Ecoboost ... so it's good for close to 13k lbs of towing. But if you read the fine print, anything above 5000lbs should have a weight distribution hitch.

The ST is supposed to be an SRT killer. This article is showing a 5600lb. tow rating.

I hate this trend of "stick an iPad on the dash, it'll be great". I would hate to stare at that interior while driving.

I like the 400hp/415lb-ft though, that should be fun. Not sure it'll be an SRT Killer though. The Durango SRT does the 60 sprint in 4.6 and clips through the 1/4 in 13.2@103.5mph. I think the Jeep is a little quicker than that.

not sure a 240will make an eassy tow

Thats a long and tall trailer for that small foot print SUV to be hauling. It might do it but I'm sure you are going to feel it with the suspension and ride quality.

This motor is the same motor that I have in my lincoln commuter car. 415 hp and 400 ft lb torque, when you use 93 octane. I added the livernois tune and get a reported additional 65 hp and 50 ft lb ot torque at the crank. With the 0-60 timer 4.4 tuned. Fun motor. Plus awd.

I would be shocked if the explorer (heavier than my mkz) would be under 5 sec 0-60. The MKZ is a reported 4.8 stock.

With a tune the Explorer will be close to the SRT's then it sounds.

I remember seeing a Livernois Tuned Ford Flex at the drag strip a few years ago. Guy was cracking off consistent mid 12's if I remember right. Was a little embarrassed when I rolled through behind him in my Trailblazer SS at 14.0@99.

I doubt it will be in the jeep srt territory, as my lighter MKZ tuned is right there. It does have the 6 speed and not the 10 speed though.

People are running low 13s stock. I have never put my cars on a drag strip, so I have clue what mine does. Torrie with unleashed has started to tune the 3.0 tt motor now with hptuners as sct just started supporting it. That will open up some tunes for these motors. Livernois has been the only one so far, and I rarely run my tune as the shifts are not that good.

Torrie at unleashed will be able to tune it as long as the strategy cube works in the system like my mkz20190130_135022.jpg

I agree... I prefer something like Ram did with the 12" display.

Thats a better integration for certain, but still too much screen for my liking.

Check out the Mazda CX-5 and any late model Mercedes. We rented a Mercedes in Northern Cali two years ago (was cheaper than an Impala), and it amazed me how "afterthought" the screen looked, and then to top it off, it wasn't even a touch screen!

Here is the Mercedes Interior. $60k for a car and this is what you get?!?!?! And it's not even a touch screen?!?! WTF Mercedes!

Here is the CX-5 interior. At least this tiny thing is a touch screen, and can "hide" in the dash if you don't like it. Still looks like a total after though in the center stack.

I blame Tesla for starting this crap. Here's the Model 3. I will never own one of these for this exact reason. The interior looks like a 90's Hyundai quality/design with an iPad glued to it. I would hate to have to stare at this during my commute every day.

oh man that tesla one is really awful, I have no interest in that Brand so first time seeing it. I've owned a Mercedes with that 1/2 tablet and on top of being ugly, the GPS software they have was terrible.
