I got the West Marine 1200# Jack for my 240, just U Bolts on the trailer opposed where the stock one mounts. Much beefier/sturdy, and has held up much better in salt than the stock jack, I think it was $100. My gears snapped in half on the stock jack, I’ve now added to my maintenance list, replacing the grease with some marine bearing grease a couple times a year to the jack gears, so far so good.
What broke on it? My buddies Pontoon trailer tongue jack broke the top weld. I was able to grind the old weld off and lay down another bead and she's better than new. Not as pretty, but saved him $100-$150.

plastic wheel, bent caster, and extension pole warped. i live on a hill with laid brick drive way. maneuvering the boat is a pain on uneven surface. backing up my driveway with a boat is easy, but boat placement is a pain.

My buddy decided to use his ranger to pull his 23' Bennington TriToon around the lawn. And since it could not handle the tongue weight, he left the jack stand down. Figured it was no worse than dragging by hand. Nope, she let loose.
Bolts up to the existing jack holes. It's a little tricky to get the old jack bolts out, but doable. It just take a little patience as an open end wrench is the only way to get at the nuts with a limited amount of room to move the wrench, but not a big deal. It was the first thing I did to the trailer as the original jack was junk. It wouldn't jack the trailer up high enough and was just plain crap.
Here is the one @HangOutdoors has. This is how I installed it. I highly recommend this.
I put it on the opposite side so that the winch handle doesn't interfere.

I'm on my 4th jack. The replacement of the OEM was a dual wheeled unit from WestMarine (w/grease fitting) and it too failed so I'm back with the $35.00 jacks. I cut up #3 for a "jack-ectomy" to see what gives, I think I have the problem solved. In a nut-shell and if your jack's inner tube (the one with the wheel bracket) has a hole, stuff it (the tube) full of grease. Will have to take off the wheel if already installed and then empty a few cartridges of grease into the hole and find something to plug the hole. Hopefully this will be the end of the yearly day that I get jack'd.
You're right, I went to my boat today and realized I didn't actually use the existing holes, but bolted it up the new jack with the supplied "U" brackets slightly forward of the original mounting holes. Fits fine though. Sorry for steering you wrong.
