Good afternoon gang...I turn to you all today without any options it would seem. As indicated in my Subject line, my boat is experiencing an issue, while underway, where the Connext screen reboots at random. I'm talking blank screen, nothing, then reboots. It's happened a few times and gives me an uneasy feeling to put it lightly.

I'm a brand new boater, this is my first boat...and while I should be focused on what's in front of me, I fear that the screen rebooting is a distraction that could cause an accident of some kind. Yamaha said the Dealer (Cycle Springs) needs to send the screen back for testing, the Dealer said Yamaha won't take it back because "there isn't a fix in place at this time."
Somebody is lying.

I find it hard to believe that Yamaha would stand behind a product that could be deemed unsafe and just continues sending boats out of the factory. Maybe they won't publish the issue publicly for that reason? Sales would essentially halt until they figured it out and they likely can't afford for that to happen but IDK, I'm just speculating.

My point of this post is not to rant, although I've lost my cool quite a bit of late with both Yamaha and CS, but to ask the group at large if any of you have had this issue happen and if so, was it fixed? What was the fix that worked? The Dealer is asking ME to call Yamaha and plead my case which is just insanity.

At this point, the Dealer is saying they don't know how long it will be since Yamaha doesn't seem to know what's causing it and they (Yamaha & CS) have indicated that a full screen replacement will not fix it. I find it hard to believe that Yamaha "doesn't know what the issue is" but also knows what WON'T fix the issue (i.e. a new screen). My boat has 6, yes you read that right...SIX HOURS on it.

To say at this point I should have kept my race car is a gross understatement. This is bonkers. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Sounds like a loose wire somewhere if it is not in the connext screen itself. Carefully check all the plugs and pins as well as all of the connections to ground. There have been numerous problems here caused by loose ground connections, one loose connection on a positive buss in the engine bay.

Thank you, the Dealer has said they've checked it all but I will request they do it again.

First off I have not herd of a random reboot out hear but I can give you the perspective of many years experience with electronics in boats and auto.

First off Yamaha should replace the Connent As a whole unit.............I have seen many circuit boards that had loose solder joints or micro cracks in mother boards that would cause a reboot or a monetary power off problem. The solution is Yamaha should replace the board!!!!!!!!!! NOW if the dealer wanted to help you diagnose for you they should start with Power wire to Connext system and run it direct from battery to connext. This would supply a lot of info to the dealer and Yamaha. If reboot did not happen with direct power........... Wiring and all the connectors from battery forward could be at fault (hard to find loose connection) in a maze of connectors. (but doable) If reboot stills happens with direct power it Narrows it down and makes the Connext circut board more at fault.

Thats where I would start if I purchased a Connext system and had no warranty, But I HAVE NO WORDS AS TO WHY YAMAHA would take this position on a new boat...........shaking head now!!!!!!!

I had an issue with mine that would just not turn on sometimes, and would stay out for days. The dealer (Cycle springs) at the direction of Yamaha repinned the whole connector. Worked for a year without issues, about 3 outings ago it wouldn't come on but when I got it home to flush the engines it was working again and luckily no problem since.

I agree on the connections. Battery Terminals, Bus Terminals, Under the Helm, etc. I traced out so many cable when I got my 2024 home and found numerous loose connections, cable not tie wrapped/secured, loose hose clamps, you name it. Quality Control is not taught these days. Welcome to Boat Ownership.

Glad you came here with your question. I answered you on the other board. But you will get little help with modern Yamaha boats over there. The folks here have way more experience with anything fourstroke or newer when it comes to boats.

I agree with above, if a dealer cannot find a simple loose connection, the Yamaha troubleshooting flow chart will lead them to replacing the screen. They avoid it at first, as it's a very costly replacement (if they have the part available). But warranty is warranty.

House battery broken internally, only acts up when under way, swap house battery and start battery positions.

My 2023 255XD has the same random reboot issue. Sounds identical to yours. Happened maybe 5 times or in the 6 weeks I had it in the water (late season purchase) and I didn’t feel like fooling with the dealer. Definitely will when she comes out of hibernation.

Long story short...replaced both batteries and cables (already planned with my first service) and had the dealer change out the screen. Took a bit of kicking and screaming but Yamaha finally sent them a new one and they installed it this week. Will take it out soon and check it out. Went to 2 Optima Blue Top batteries and made sure all grounds, connections, etc were sound.

I’ve had the same issue with my 2023 222SD and it’s been at Cycle Spring for 3 weeks and they can’t figure out what the issue is. Ours also reboots while just sitting at the sandbar listening to music all the time. There asking Yamaha to send out a new screen to see if that’ll fix it but have yet to hear back from Yamaha. I’ll be making some calls this week to try to speed things up.

Did that solve your problem?

Hopefully jetboatnewb07 will update on the possible fix.

I have a new screen waiting for me at my dealer which is 3 hours away. The only issue I was having was depth alarm quit sounding and top speed would not register as saved. No biggie as everything else is working so far.
My dealer obtained a screen in a few weeks time. Told them to hold it until years end.

Curious if the batteries fixed your issue? Had the same issue tonight like the master switch was turned off...

The screen rebooting (12.3') has been widely reported in the last month or two. Yamha released a software update that is available to dealers that is supposed to address this problem. I should be getting the update for our boat today or Monday.
I hope it actually works.

I’m here now getting it done. I’ll report back if it happens again. Rhx

We like Long Lake. Had our previous boat there in 21 & 23. I family have in Raymond and Wells.

Nice! We love it here. Hopefully we’ll be here full time in a few years.
