This is probably the most disappointing test I’ve seen BT do. I wrote them a rather scathing review not that it will get any notice, so disappointing. I’ve only seen two reviews on any of the Yamaha jet boats that mention the cruise assist in a meaningful way, boating magazines test of the 210 FSH and Canadian based Power Boat test of the 210 FSH, the latter actually demonstrated the cruise assist, then mentions “why more boats don’t have this feature is beyond me”.

In this test there is NO fuel consumption data, Whiskey Tang Foxtrot? The data is right there in front of you on the connext screen. Sigh.

Know what’s worse than no information? Bad Information.

My letter to BT.

Test on 2024 Yamaha 255 FSH Sport H.

I think this test should not have been published until all the test data was available. No fuel consumption data? Seriously? Capt Trip mentions best cruise but no numbers are given, That information is a hallmark of Boat test, and this data could have easily been obtained by using the connext screen as fuel consumption in gph is shown at any engine rpm level, heck the test data from the 2021 255 Sport E that Capt Steve did could have been used. Also this boats acceleration is phenomenal, and there is no mention of that.

Then later in the article where the engines are talked about, the author is talking about the new normally aspirated 1.9L engines that are NOT IN THIS BOAT. This boat has the super charged 1.8L engines.

There is mention of the no wake mode switch but no mention of the cruise assist that is associated with the cruise assist.

There is also no mention of the Simrads’ 2D fish finder and down imaging.

This is one of the most exciting and highly anticipated Yamaha tests and Boat Test review is disappointing as so many of the features of this boat have been left out of this test.

I try to stay away from negativity, but the short comings of this test are stark. Please pull this test down and re edit before re publishing it. If you need some assistance feel free to contact me at xxxxx

BT is beyond saving at this point, IMO.

I bought a 2024 255 H about 2 months ago. Previously had a 2022 210 FSH Sport. The following is a comparison of the 2 boats.
The 210 is a good lake or protected water boat. It does not handle choppy water well. The river we live on gets wind blown and boat wake chop in the afternoon and we would get bounced around and get a lot of spray and get wet. The Lectro Trim Tabs I installed did not help. The 255 is fantastic in the same conditions even before I installed Seakeeper Ride. We can run 5 - 10 MPH faster than the 210 and the ride is smooth and dry. The improved ride is the main reason we went to the 255.
I'm not crazy about the Simrad. The 210 had a Garrmin 943 with a pair of GT56UHD side scan transducers. I'm adding a pair of 3 in 1 Simrad to add the side scan capability to the 255. I shall see.
Many of the things I added to the 210 were already on the 255 from the factory. Corner deck drains, forward fishing platform/table.
The 255 does not have the Thrust Direction Enhancer (TDE) the 210 has on the bucket control. With the Helm Master the buckets are either forward, neutral, or reverse. The joystick is the only way to get fine control of the boat motion at slow speed. IDK if Yamaha can add TDE to the 255 so the throttle levers can have more proportional control over the buckets.
Another reason for moving to the 255 was the top speed on the 210 was 40 MPH on a good day. Cruise was about 30 MPH. I've had the 255 up to 55 MPH. Cruising speed is around 35 - 40 MPH. Fire walling the throttles from cruise is impressive, the boat roars and pulls away.
255 wish list:
Autopilot even one that only maintains a set heading.
TDE
Larger Tee Top to provide more shade forward and aft.
Garmin option instead of Simrad.

Yep. They are awesome. I had issues with the app on the nsx . but working great now

Sunday I discovered that a couple of bars of bow down smoothed out the light chop. Boat was "light". I was solo with half fuel.

Have it on auto . still getting used to the digital screens , new control features and touch screen nsx. So auto is one less thing to worry about when cruising at 40 mph

LOL , 1 more to the list.

Easy install. 2 small holes. Well worth it.
I have key pad . my old boat was all analog. This is all digital . different way of doing things.

fuel consumption data:
I set a target speed using the drive control and then recorded the fuel burn rate.

Based on this data, I would say the cruising speed is 25 - 35 MPH.
