Guys! So I have bought a new 2024 255XD but I have not been able to see everything it has and was hoping you guys could fill in some of the gaps.

Underwater lights - I see there is a light on the back of the boat underwater. Is that blue in color or is it white? Is it super bright or do I need to add aftermarket lights there to make it worth it.

Does the tower speakers have LED lights on them. I noticed the small ones around the boat do but was unsure if the tower speakers have them. If not has anyone added LED lights to them.

How is the noise on the engines? I have had an AR230 for the last 13 years and it is loud as hell. Is there big improvements with the engine noise.

Wake Surfer - is there a wake surfing board that works better with the Yamaha Jet Boat wake?

As you can see a theme in my questions. Is the overall LED's perfect for night or do they lack? All of our neighbors park in the middle of water at night and want it to be as cool if not cooler than the neighbors boat if you know what I mean =).

Last question - Is there anything I need to invest in, upgrade etc... that others have done to the boat that either help performace or functionality that I need to know about.

Thanks a ton guys!

Congrats on the new boat.

The under water light is a blue color, its bright, but I've seen brighter.

No LEDs on tower speakers.

It's A LOT quieter than an AR230.

For surfing you're going to want a very buoyant board. The wave is surfable but the buoyant board helps provide more push.

The LEDs in the boat seem great to me. You're going to want more under the swim deck if you want to WOW anyone.

Yes, upgrade the factory amps if you really want to wow you neighbors. Performance upgrades all depend on how much $$$ you want to spend. Boat performance mods aren't as easily noticeable in the seat of the pants like in a car or truck, so it's really a question of how much do you want to spend. Do a quick search for 255XD mods or build, there are a few threads out there from different folks including myself that may give you some ideas about mods you might want to try/do.

Thanks guys! So a few more additional questions I appreciate all the feedback! Few more questions and again I appreciate you guys taking the time.

Does anyone know what Wetsound Tower Speakers they use? Apparently they sell an LED ring for them and I wanted to order it now before I got the boat to install them.

I know you suggest a very boyant Wake Surfer board, do you have any boards you can recommend?

So has anyone installed additional underwater lights on their 255XD and can they recommend a brand?

Thanks again!

The tower speakers are Icon 8s.

I have the board that came with the Yamaha surf wakebooster package a few years back. Do a quick search of the forum for surf boards and that’ll give you some idea about boards.

I haven’t, nor do I now of anyone who has added more lights to the factory one. I sure you could just go in thru the cleanout tray and wire one or two more in parallel with the one that’s there since they’re LED and don’t hand much power draw.

Thanks F.M

Wetsound sells the LED Ring Kit for the Icon 8's. I was wondering if anyone had installed it on the 255Xd. I was looking for video installations but havent found any good ones yet.

Still looking for Underwater Lighting kits that might be good, will let you know if I find one.

A little more insight to the underwater light. I just picked up my 2024 225xd from the dealer after chasing a water leak in the rear transom since I purchased it. Turns out the rear underwater light is leaking through the light itself. Of course it is on backorder until 10/12 but they are attempting to get Yamaha to send one from the factory build line. We shall see........in the meantime I may just purchase one with a brighter Lumen and install it myself. B.O.A.T.

Glad you were able to find that leak!

Congratulations on your new boat. I purchased the same boat. Here is what I found and the mods I have made or will be making:

  • After reading about the potential for severe engine damage when running with just one engine or getting towed, I installed water intake shut-off values. Without these, you cannot go more than a few MPH without risking severe water lock damage to the non-operating engine when moving. I installed mine under the rear wet storage area as there is more room to do so there than in the engine compartment. See this Jetboaters posting for more information on doing this installation.
  • I installed 65" trailer post guides, and man, do they help when putting the boat on the trailer.
  • I installed a second table mount in the bow so I can set the table up there. It's not centered, as the leg is a bit long, so I'm going to have someone cut a few inches out of the lower part of the leg and weld it back together.
  • I'm having Keel Guard installed as I do pull up to the beach often.
  • F.M. is right; the factory amps are underpowered, and you can't adjust them. I was very disappointed at how poor the system sounds. I'm replacing them both with the WetSounds SYN-DX6 amps and adding a second subwoofer, a Wetsouunds Zero 10 S4XZ. I'm also reconfiguring the zones so that the soundbar becomes part of the boat zone, as the middle of the boat does not get much sound. To save myself a lot of hassle when connecting the amps, I found that you can get plug-compatible dongles for the Yamaha Connext with RCA jacks by contacting Brandon. See this thread: Yamaha/Wet Sounds DSP Harnesses. I sent him a text with questions at 724-884-6120, and he responded soon after with a wealth of helpful information.
  • After using the boat, I found there was no convenient place for trash, so I'm adding a countertop Trash and Waste Chute Lid to the gally top. It took me a while to find one that would fit, as the gally top is only about 9" wide. I found this one. I'll put a small trash can under it in the galley storage area.
  • As I plan to take some long trips and few marinas sell premium gas where I am, I purchased a 54-gallon fuel bladder and will connect it to the gas tank with a 12V fuel transfer pump that I plan to mount in the engine compartment. I hope to use one of the provided aux switches in the helm to turn it on/off. When I need it, I will put the fuel bladder in the starboard rear seat storage compartment. The bladder should give me about 100 miles of additional distance between fill-ups. Unfortunately, thanks to the awesome SVO engines, this boat only gets 1.8 MPG at its optimal cruising speed of 32.4 MPH. I have not personally confirmed this MPG rate, but see the Boating Mag Review for more details.
  • Finally, I'm adding a porta-potie as, well, it's a must-have for my wife. After reading a bunch of posts by others who have done the same on the 24/25 foot Yamaha, the Thetford 92860 Porta Potti 135 with optional tie-downs seems to work well for many.
  • In the future, I have a few more mods in mind, such as adding the ZipWake 300S, as I'm on Lake Superior, and it gets rough. From what I've read, traditional trim tabs don't fit well. See this posting from @shortroyd, who installed them on his 252SD. I want to add a Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 93sv, like @judge did on his 275SD, as I find the chart plotter in the Connext lacking in planning features for longer trips. Also, to get access to sonar.

I got the dealer to include this board with my purchase, and I find it works well with the wave produced by the 255XD. This guy offers some great advice.

Did you ever end up adding fins? The 25 footer is a beast to turn, adding fins to mine (cobra) made a HUGE difference.
Thank you for the feedback, I do also have custom made set for the DRIVE X nozzles after many requests from people who want more response and less bow wander.

I under the impression that Yamaha didn't include the rudder on the DriVEX equipped boats because they interfere with the sideways water movement associated with the lateral and spin modes. Did you have to do anything special not to interfere with the operation of the DriveX modes?

It does not interfere at all , both nozzles and reverse buckets are independent of each other .
