My 2012 SX240 still has Seaworthy speakers, made by Prospec Electronics. They make JBL and Infinity. If the 2012 242 has Aquatic as the upgraded stuff, it isn't much better. I would double check their serial numbers, I haven't noticed any change in size from what they use, which has been 6.5" speakers since the beginning of time. If they put in the AQ-SPK7.5, it has a mounting hole of 142mm and it is a considerable improvement over the Seaworthy speaker in terms of construction and quality build...but its performance dynamics are still a 50W RMS speaker. Unless your considering a vast improvement to something like a JL 770, I don't think you will gain much. I would double check however, I don't know, you sure that they are not the AQ-SPK6.5 6.5" speaker?
Thanks, I will pull it again and double check when I get back to the boat. The only reason I want to change them is because they suck..lol. the 2 on the swim deck crackle so bad they are painful to listen to. Apparently the yes warranty does not cover audio equipment.
The warranty will cover the head unit, at least the factory warranty will, not sure about the extended Y.E.S. Warranty, but I doubt either will cover speakers after a month.
I have a 2012 LS. I switched the speakers out and used 6.5". The switch is easy since the hole is cut. I was able to just drill new holes for the 6.5"s. I haven't had any issues. I replaced them with Polks right after I bought the boat.

I have the stock aquatics in my '10 242 LS and am hoping that adding a 6 channel amp will improve the sound quality. If it doesn't work I will upgrade the speakers.
I believe ALL of the 242's were equipped with 6.5." It's a VERY standard size, to use and for the manufacture to obtain @ a reasonable cost to them. The change to quality speakers makes a remarkable difference. I endorse the MX-650's by JL, even knowing that for some owners, these specific speakers may be out of their price range. However, they DO "sound" their cost in spades ! Good Luck, pls let me know if I can help further. Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA NOTE: If you decide to purchase these from an Authorized Factory dealer, like Crutchfield, they come with a 2-year warranty, which JL has a reputation of providing after the original sale, virtually no questions asked.
I added a wetsounds 6 channel amp to the factory polks. They sound much better with more power. I installed a wetsounds powered 10" sub last week. best mod so far!
I know this is an old thread, but I'm hoping someone can help. I have a 2012 242 LS that came with Aquatic AV 7.5 inch speakers. Based on comments here, I got a pair of Polk DB651s. The cutout for the AVs was over 5.5 inches and the bolt circle dia on the Polks is only 5.5 inches, so no joy. I guess 6.5's ain't what they used to be...the overall dia of my Polks is only 6.25. The bolt circle on the AVs was 6.5 so even if I could secure the Polks the holes would show.
Can anyone recommend specific 6.5 models that are still "full-sized"? I've seen Polk and Wetsounds referenced in this thread but I'm open to others.
One of the AVs is coming apart and I would like to upgrade rather than a direct replacement. I'm also hoping to not have to spend the money for 7.7 JL's.
