Does anyone know if it’s possible to replace the hard ballast tanks with the soft ones to gain more storage in the 2021- 2023 255XD models?

Option would be to contact wakemakers and have them make you custom bags. Unfortunately as of late I've heard wakemakers has turned into a customer service nightmare. They have overpromised and underdelivered.

I cut out my hard tanks and put bags in my 212x from them. It was a huge pain in the ass, but it worked with a shit ton of extra parts and money. I think the newer boats have a better interface that's more adjustable than what is on my boat.

Thanks for the input! I was looking at used 255’s but def don’t want hard tanks taking up so much storage room. Excited to see what comes out tomorrow night with the 2025 Model Year!

How did ballast change for 2025? Does 255xd have more ballast weight now? Is surf wave any better than previous years?

The new 255xd are bags just order replacement. I plan to due it next season.
port under seat TANK WATER | F5K-U4261-50-00 $310.67

Ballast is reported as the same but the jet nozzles adjust them self when in surf mode

If jet is still your requirement I'd spend more and get the Kyma. Would be better in nearly every single category, except MAYBE swim platform. However, modern tow boats swim platforms and rear transoms are pretty well optioned.

I ended up with the 255XD with hard ballast tanks, if I want to switch.. do the new 2025 bags just swap out with the same hard ballast tank attachments?

Yes but there is a wall that is mounted in the engine compartment to hold the ballast in place. But looks ez to do.

So when you swap from hard to soft ballast, you need to add extra bags in the engine compartment to equal the weight of the hard tanks?

Just get equivalent size bags. Or I bet you could fit bigger ones in that storage space. Get wakemakers to make you some custom ones.

The parts i listed are in order port 23, 37 starboard 24, 38
