While doing some spring cleaning and reconnecting the battery I came upon the feature that saves max speed.
Not sure where it got that number from since I don't ever remember being above 55 while alone.
What is the speedo error on these things?

lol! May have left the ignition on while trailering??

lol, not that I can ever recall. I always shut off the battery switch, open the drains and take out clean out plug as part of procedure. I have a checklist I follow every time...

The speed is not gps based and I doubt there is enough wind towing on the freeway to spin the paddle wheel that fast. So leaving the ignition on is out of question LOL. With that said, I read that it has something to do with the factory testing the boat. I think mine read 61

My Group K Exciter would do 65 on the speedo bouncing to 70. Real GPS was about 63 to 65. Lots of fun unless it was rough.

I believe I have seen the same number on mine. My coolers are always way too heavy to ever let my boat go that fast.:p

Man I can't remember where I read it but someone was questioning why the boat will only run 50 when max was 60+..... The reason was the motor was tested in a stripped down boat. I'll do some hunting for it. I don't even remember "which" forum I read it on

Yep, Yamaha tests out every boat on the water, basically just a hull and engine with minimal gas... Smooth lake water up in Georgia! I'm guessing 62 is the max you can achieve

Gets me to thinking. I think I will throw out everything inside my LS2000 and see if I can hit 70 like an exciter

I thought the speeds on the 1.8L powered boats is GPS based. If the motors are tested in stripped down boats shouldn't we all have similar max speeds? Would traveling up stream in a strong current cause such a reading?

@ClemsonTiger , do you have a wheel that picks up the speed in your Fsh? Where is it? I recall having a pickup mounted to the back of my sx230 but don't remember seeing anything like it on my 242ls. I'm almost sure the stock transducer only reads depth and temperature.

The new E-Series are GPS speed controlled....wasn't aware of any of the older models. Pretty sure Yamaha only water tests the finished boats. My guess is this a an anomaly from jumping a wake and having an instant spike....

My 242 speedometer was GPS based.

192's have a little paddle wheel in the rear section, no gps.
If this is indeed from testing, how much sense would it make to have a function regarding a max speed we will never be able to hit?
In any case, I can sleep better knowing that it was not achieved with the wife at the helm. ( I already knew it had not been while I was... lol).

@Eurocat
Ummmmm...do you remember that time I borrowed your boat???? Lol

lol. that must have been it. that's why I ask someone else to break it in for me.
They are merciless and that makes for a faster boat.
