Hello again! Had a great memorial weekend with the boat and family. One thing I noticed was that on start up in had a little smoke generated for a second then it went away. Is this normal for the 2015 SX210? This is a brand new boat from a dealer.

Thanks again!

I'm not a mechanic but I have seen this every spring on my boat. I think its the fogging material they apply to protect your engines over the winter.

Thanks for the reply. This is happening on every start up. Just a little puff of smokeach for about 1 second.

How many hours? Did you break in the engine? Is your engine even broken in yet?

I have never noticed smoke from my engines when I start them up, but I usually am not looking that way either...no would say as long as everything is running good and it doesn't start smoking like a diesel you're ok.

What color smoke? Pics or video?

It smells like oil. I think each engine does it. The boat is at the lake which is not at my house so I don't have pics on my now. I did notice that the oil level seems to be a little over the full mark when on the water but not a whole lot. Everything else runs perfect.

2015 sx has mr-1 non ho motors and is probably high on oil. Probably the issue.
Pull out the filters but leave the flame arrestor and i would run like that for a trip or two and see if it goes away. Instead of the filter blocking the oil it will be burning it.

I sent an email to my dealer here is what their techs had to say
"
Our Techs tell me that a puff of blue after start up is normal.
After running, you can get a small amount of oil in the intake system thru crankcase ventilation.
Again, normal.
The oil is a dry sump system.
When you check the oil, your checking a holding tank. Not a oil pan like your car.
It will raise and fall slightly. Boat attitude can also affect the reading.
Just keep an eye on the level.
"

Blue/dove smoke is typically oil related. Black smoke is typically fuel/air ratio related and white smoke is typically vapor/steam (early morning startups).

If you're reading higher than normal oil levels then I would drain some out and see if it goes away after a few times out.

Additionally, be careful what oil you are running if NOT the recommended Yamalube. . . . . I have noticed some full synthetics in engines that are not built for them, can get past the rings and cause a start up puff like you describe in automotive applications.
