If you ever launch in salt water, I would recommend the Kodiak all stainless steel hydraulic surge setup. It's pricey but all you can do in salt water. Probably one launch in salt water and you'll begin the destruction of components inside you can't rinse with electric.

My aluminium trailer came with Kodiak coated parts (not zinc galvanized but whatever they call their coated stuff). 3 seasons and it was all crap. I replaced everything with all SS at a cost of about 800 per axle. And they are surge brakes. I'd hate to see what drums would look like holding that salt water inside complete unrinsable.

Absolutely fine. It's the salt that sits inside the drum that is impossible to rinse out that will get you. I wonder if you could put a rinse fitting in the backing plate with a sorta flush hose to get inside the drum if you do think you'll ever go in salt water, it might be a good time to add it. Unless you know your 100% fresh water then don't sweat it, you'll be fine.
 
I'll bet that could be added. Almost like adding a grease zurk, I'll have to look and see how deep fitting you'd need. We even just now talked about adding a shallow ended electrical fitting to give you a small port to flush water into from the rear that would double as a drain hole.
