SO, I'm about 50% on this questionable project. I'm marrying a -92 Waverunner Jet unit and Engine with a fiberglass fishing kayak.

Currenty I'm forming and shaping the rear to add flotation to handle the added weight in the back.
As I was looking at it I realized it pretty darn smooth on the bottom. what hit me was, will this prove a problem for tracking? Should I add some ridges or something to make it track better?

I'd like to keep it as moot as possible to help when I paddle. I realize this will not be able to go fast at all if thee are ANY waves. But I don't want to be going fast on flat water and then suddenly spin out and crash either...

Ideas? Criticism? advise?

Try sponsons like jet skis use or I can build you a set of p w c steering fins to make it steer and track very nicely. I was going to do something similar with a small fiberglass boat hull and a pwc but I don't have the time, maybe some day.

Obviously with a narrow hull balance will be paramount.
I like the project it will be cool to scoot around on. What's the idea for the purpose. It's okay that the purpose is to just put a jet in a kayak. Was just curious.

The hull is from a "Fishing kayak" and 32" wide. I hope that will give me enough stability.

Located in Florida the idea is to give me longer "legs" to explore the shallow estuaries and rivers than what you can do (in 90+ degree heat) in a regular kayak.
Mainly for taking nature photos (Hence they kayak nature, can't be stealthy on a Jet ski).

Motor in to a location, then paddle around and get close.

If it works I'd live to take some overnight trips while hammock camping in the cooler months.

Actually you can take a jet ski in areas and be stealthy. I built a removable trolling motor mount and a cooler for the rear deck that has fishing pole holders and it holds the huge battery that will run the ski around in restricted areas all day. I love it and I can run W O T through waves with no worries of loosing the motor or the battery. I go in a lot of NO internal combustion engine areas just to explore.
