Air show. Beaufort,SC

We are planning on going to the air show in Beaufort in late April.

Can anyone who is local recommend a place to stay?

Should we stay in Beaufort or stay further away in Hilton head or another place?

Hopefully there are people here familiar with the area.

Our favorite place to stay is Fripp Island. You can find a place to stay on www.vrbo.com. It's a private island with villas, condos, and homes for rent. It can get pricey, but my wife always finds a good last-minute deal when we go there.

Taking the boat?

Fripp is nice, the hurricane did alot of damage but it's getting better... Harbor Island is also a good option... It takes about 20 minutes to drive back to town from there though... Fripp has a boat ramp but running the river to town can be tricky if you don't have a GPS.
If you trailer to lady's island there is a good ramp on 21, very secure... And minutes from the downtown sandbar... Bay Street has a best Western, which is right downtown and walking distance to everything there... Book prior to Friday, (Marine Corp. Graduation(s)) there is a Hilton Gardens that is nicer too... Stay away from the Atlantic Inn... It's hourly! And trash.
Hilton head is good too and will take you approximately 30 minutes from skull Creek to downtown bft. Very easy cruise...
