Hey guys.. new to the forum and I am looking at the 19 AR195 for my first boat. Does anyone have any advise for me before buying the boat or suggestions on other options? The main driver for the 195 is that it fits in my garage and its top of my budget. I live in Arizona and have access to several incredible lakes and like the idea of no prop like my for shallow waters.

The minute you buy the 19 footer, you will be wanting the 21 footer. Otherwise, it is a great boat.

It's an excellent boat. I purchased the SX-192 new back in 2015. Loved it, did a ton of mods and kept for 3 years before upgrading.

@NickB Can you provide some more information in regards to how you will be using the boat? How many people, intended use, previous boating experience? If you provide the group with some more information will be able to point you in the right direction.

I think the only people who think this are those who really wanted the bigger boat to begin with. I have an AR195 and our family loves it. No need for a bigger boat.

Not necessarily, it's been over a minute and for the 3 of us, 19 ft is plenty. Just depends on your family needs

Same here. There are trade offs with a bigger boat and 19ft fits my needs.

I have a family of 5, of which 4 normally go boating. Our 190 is plenty big, plenty fast, and has plenty of space.

@NickB, what part of AZ are you in? What lakes do you think you’ll be using it on? I’m in Flagstaff and most of our boating is at Powell.

I agree with others that it depends more on how you will be using it. If you’re going to be loading up 6 people and heading up Powell with 4 days of gear for everyone to shore camp then the 195 probably isn’t going to meet your needs. If you’re going to be making day trips with less than 6-8 people then it’s probably more than enough.

All Yamahas are superb. No need whatsoever to buy a new one. There are plenty of used single engine ones available for sale, in great shape and much cheaper than new, being sold by those who owned their single engines for a minute and needed to move to a twin. I'm serious. Go used and save a ton of money.

Your probably right but it’s my only option.

I live in gilbert and plan to hit every lake within driving distance including havasau.

It will most likely be the wife and son most of the time.. family and friend on occasion.

I was planning to go used until I visited my local Yamaha dealer, I was not pleased with the condition of the used stuff. The money isn’t the issue, just didn’t want to buy one and then be disappointed with performance and quality. I’ve never been in one of these in the water yet, tomorrow morning is my test ride on the slate model, if all goes well she comes home with me after the lake.

Sure thing.. I love to surf but these do my offer that so it will be wake boarding and tubing for the kids. I plan to customize the balls out of it, getting the slate grey model. Other than that just chillin on the lake with friends.

I can’t see more than 6 people on the boat at once, will that amount of people slow it down drastically?

BTW guys.. thank you for getting back to me, nice to be a part of an active forum again. The last one I was a member of was for my campagna T-rex.. I am here to learn and provide knowledge as well as I enter the world of “Bust Out Another Thousand”

We bought our AR240 from Complete Marine in September. My parents bought their boat from them in 1996. We’ve been very happy with them. If your salesman is Lane he will give you some good pointers on handling the jet boat when you’re out on it tomorrow. They handle different than other drive systems when you’re at no wake speeds.

If the size fits your needs as far as family and friends the 195 is a terrific choice, also seem to have good resale value. Supercharger will serve you well at altitude. I would get one with the tower (AR). Not to mention, having a brand new vessel without inheriting anyone else's issues and being able to fit it in the garage and tow behind almost any SUV is sweet.

After owning a SX190 without a supercharger and now owing a AR195 I can tell you this is where the supercharger shines. The answer is with more weight you will loose speed however unless you are really loaded up the speed loss is minimal with the 195.

Guys...It was a joke. I owned a 19 footer for years and now own a 21 footer. My brother told me the same thing when I was boat shopping and Luckily, I found a great used 210 and I don't have to tow it much or far. Have fun with the AR 195!

I have customized the crap out of mine and you can surf as well keeping in mind the wave will never be like a wake boat, however your are also not spending 80 -100k +.

If your looking to wake surf and wakeboard I would consider the following mods
1. The 19’ custom transom bag
2. The Lucky 13 cone to reduce cavitation while loaded down
3. The Thrust Vector Wake. This is a brand new product that is still being developed but looks very promising.
4. Another ballast bag in the ski locker or 2-3 people sitting in the bow with the 19’ transom bag.
We got into wake surfing last year after decades of wakeboarding and love it. Hell of a lot lower impact on your body.

As for speed, as long as you limit the weight in the bow you will only loose about 4mph with 6 people in the boat.
