We’re retired and have about 2-3 more Jersey winters in us. I’m road tripping cross country in July and I’m going to check out the scene down there. Because of cost, we’re not going to be lakefront, but we’d like to be a walkable distance (1 mile) to a marina. Which side of the lake do you suggest i house hunt?
cheers, Rick

Saw your post about Percy Priest, have you thought of looked into Norris Lake? Beautiful beautiful lake with very affordable property around it. I have 2 acres in a gated community with marina included and it was very reasonable (haven't built yet, just land). Very hilly obviously though

I’m $450k or so. Doable?

the only thing I know about Lake Norman is that Mark Thompson has a home there. Mark Thompson of Mark and Brian. They were Southern California's top morning radio show for 25 years. They got me through so many tough mornings in my life. Mark and his with Lynda do a podcast from there. In fact her twitter is Lake Norman Lynda. I'm sure it means nothing to you, but I still listen to them. Oh well, just thought I would throw that out.

This is all you man!

I'm starting to second guess my decision to move to Hawaii!

@450 you're probably going to want to look at the west side of the lake. The east side is much more convenient to charlotte and the $ reflects that. You can also check out tega cay, SC its a lake community on lake whylie

If you want investment/vacation property check st james city in florida less than $200K with dock and close to open water...most of the property there are modular homes though, cash no financing allowed in state of Florida For those type of property that are older.. lots of Airbnb there if u want to check it out it’s a quiet retirement island, I stayed there for 3 weeks before I ended up in the Atlantic side.

We just moved to Lake Wylie, actually right across the street (Check my Profile Pic. Your price point is doable, being on the lake would of cost us an additional $100-$150K for a fixer upper. Luckily our Marina is a short walk for us. Been Boating on this lake for 5yrs now and love it!

We live in Matthews, NC which is a suburb of Charlotte. We're originally from New Jersey! We boat on Lake Norman, it's gorgeous up there! Been out a few times on Lake Wylie but we prefer Lake norman for the size of the lake and areas to explore. You can't go wrong with the lakes down here, they're so much more clean than up north! We love it.

We're making our first visit over to Lake Wylie starting this weekend, renting a house on the northern part of the lake (almost directly west of the airport). Are you aware of any beachy areas we can go to? Our kids love to back up to a beachy area on our home lake (Jordan). Any things in particular we need to check out while we're there? Restaurants on the lake we can boat to? Appreciate any help you can give!!!

Sandbar on south Allison creek is fun. Another one (NC sandbar) close to lake Wylie marina and bridge). There is a very small sandbar off Torrence creak past windjammer park but it is small (holds maybe 10 boats) but great on slow days. Goat island is good island to beach, sunset island is ok as well. I tend to stay south of the bridge between NC and SC so don’t know much above the Belmont area

See if this link works. Should have much of what I mentioned.

Actually my profile pic is at Goat island.

The main restaurant is Papa Docs (near bridge). You can dock there and walk in. There is hot dog/hamburger type food at Tega Cay Marina, River Hills Marina and both sandbars have pontoons serving food. I think there is another restaurant on the north side of the lake as well but have never been.
