So, I really need to paint my house. And deck. And the shop interior/exterior in it's entirety. I was gonna hire a pro (and still may for the shop exterior), but I figure I've got some manpower and with a good sprayer, this should be something we could knock out pretty easily in stages.

With that said, online reviews are very misleading on some of these, and some definitely flag some caution. Seems Graco is the go-to for these, particularly with the big box stores and I do want local support should something go awry. I'm looking at this guy right now-

Graco Magnum ProX19 Cart Airless Paint Sprayer-17G180 - The Home Depot

Graco claims it sprays any paint with ease, no thinning required. Reviews dictate otherwise it seems, although they vary greatly.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Just set my money on fire and bring a pro in for all? I'm not opposed to shelling out more for a quality sprayer that won't give me issues - once all this is done I'll sell it anyway and recoup at least 60% of the investment I'm sure. Plus, it's all a tax write off at this point.

Thanks in advance,

I have a buddy that is helping me paint the house in stages. He has something that looks similar, I followed after the sprayer with a roller.

Honestly though - I would just pay someone if you have the cash to do so lol.

That’s more sprayer than you need. Something like this is fine for a house or two a year.

Graco Magnum X5 Airless Paint Sprayer-262800 - The Home Depot

Pretty much any airless should be able to pump latex paint. Titan is a good brand as well.

For exterior use the sprayer to get paint on the wall...and then back brush immediately with a chip brush. Don’t try and spray only. Exterior House painting is not like painting a car. So you don’t need a high end or even mid grade airless that can properly atomize thick paint. The sprayer is only to get the paint out of the can.

The only reason for an expensive airless is if you want to get into painting cabinets or a high gloss interior trim. But there are better choices for that.

Use good paint. (Not what the box stores sell) I’m partial to SW emerald.

Man... Talking paint brings me back. Worked for Sherwin after college for about 9 years before making a career move. @the MfM pretty much nailed it. Whatever you get... Just make sure you can switch out the tips so you can spray different materials and dial in the fan depending on what you're doing.

2 days late and lots of dollars short, heh. I ended up buying the one I linked this past Sunday. After the shop and house, I'm just gonna sell it anyway, so no harm no foul I guess. Probably try it out next weekend...or return it and buy that one above.

I have this one and it's pretty good. I used it for interior. Prep takes some and had to be careful for over spray.

I'm going to try and use it for some cabinets.

Have fun. Remember to start at the top and work your way down.

As simple and obvious as that sounds, I'm glad you mentioned it as I'm positive I wouldn't have.
