Anyone Had Success with a Different Brand Remote for Aquatics AV System?

The stern remote to my 2012 Aquatics AV is fried and they don't make that remote any longer. It looks like I might have to buy a new model head and new stern remote. Before I go there, has anyone had any luck with a different brand remote with the Aquatics AV system? This remote is the one at the stern, wired into the head unit. Thanks!
