AR195 for taller passengers

Hey guys! New to the forum and my wife and I are in the market for a jetboat, looking to buy this winter or early spring of 2020. I’ve done a ton of research and sat on some boats and read through a lot of forums ultimately we’ve narrowed our decisions down to the Yamaha 195 series. As I’ve seen in earlier posts the big decision between the SX195 and the AR195 is the compromise of tower vs co-pilot chair. My wife really wants the co-pilot chair, I really like the idea of the the tower and perhaps both. We landed on the 195 for a few reasons: 1. It’s our first boat (we’ve owned jet skis) 2. Budget 3. It fits in my standard 7’ door height two Car garage.

We want something to get us in the game, it seems like a super fun boat. Howeverrrrrrrr, I’m 6’7” 260 lbs..... we got on a new AR 195 at the dealer and I can’t stand up with the Bimini top open.... I look ridiculous when sitting on the holster seat. Which is fine, not a big deal.

My main question that I couldn’t tell from our short time on the boat and not being on a new SX yet is it appears that you can raise the height of the Bimini with push button tabs?? If we don’t have the top up I’m used to ducking under a door here and there so not a big deal. But can that top be adjusted? Also does the SX Bimini top have any more clearance under it than the AR?

For compromise, has anyone heard of dealers putting the FACTORY TOWER on an SX? I wouldn’t want an aftermarket one.

Thanks for any input. I did sit on the 212, and yes it has way more room in captains seats than the 195 but it’s not in the budget and won’t fit in my garage yet....

Hello and welcome! Glad to have you here.

Not sure on the height question. Putting a factory tower on an SX gets you an AR, so at that point I would just go with the AR. My AR you can adjust the front of the bimini, but not really the whole thing. I do have those push buttons but really never messed with them, as I don't want it to catch more air while running.

One thing while seated that might be helpful is replacing the pedestal with one that goes up and down... I am working on that, myself (but I am only 6').

There’s been a few members that have gotten an AR and had the dealer get them a port side captains chair to go in place of the bench. That’s the way I would go if I was dead set on a tower and two captains chairs. I do however enjoy the j seating in my AR.

I’m 6’3” and I put my hand up on the Bimini on my ‘19 AR195 when I’m coming off the swim deck to make sure I don’t hit my head. Even when you click the Bimini up all the way it seems like you only get a few extra inches.


Doesn’t bother me though, really love the rest of the boat!

Thanks for the input guys. If the dealer can throw the co-pilot swivel seat in, my wife will throw the money at them ?

I was going to buy a sx but they said the tower will crack the gel coat trying to install it

Doesn't the new 195S have captains chairs and a tower? Maybe the best of both worlds for you if it's in the budget!

I'm 6'2” tall and hit my head on the Bimini on our AR190 from time to time. I've learned to put a hand on it as I move around the boat. Just as a reminder to watch my head. I've hit my head on our aftermarket sound bar 12 times now. I'm sure I'll break 20 next season. Haven't knocked myself out or drawn blood yet though

I Didn't have a problem adding a Samson tower to our last boat in the factory spot. Maybe the 19's are different from a 16' there?

Just get the 195S you get the tower with two captain chars
