Bought My boat last year and oil had just been changed when purchased. As summer approaches I am wondering what maintenance I should perform? Oil change, spark plugs, etc.? Anything I am missing?

Oil for sure. Plugs are somewhat owners preference. Some change em out every year, others it depends on how many hours get put on the boat every season.

We just bought ours last year too, I don't know when the plugs were last changed so I'll be replacing them, but if you know when they were changed you can use that as a guide. It won't hurt to change them and it's not a high cost for peace of mind.

It's not hard. You will need some kind of an oil extractor. There are electric pumps that are not much more costly than a manual extractor.

Check our faq section at the top of the page

Just bought a electric pump. What type oil brand/weight should I use. I will look up recommend oil unless board has better option.

10w-40 is what Yamaha switched to for the MR-1 engine. The manual probably indicates 10w-30.
