image.jpeg I had boat out yesterday. Picked up something about 5 miles from dock. Couldn't clear it with reverse move. Took a quick picture this morning before kids baseball game. I can get better pictures later. Looks like I may need a new impeller and wear ring. Is it possible there is worse damage than that? Would it be possible to file impeller down? I'm going to pull the pump when I get time to inspect it closer. Boat is a Scarab. I wish I had those clean out plugs.

Hard to tell about the wear ring but that impeller is going to need some work.

I agree. You'll need to get the impeller reconditioned or a new one. Can'ttell about the wear ring based on the pick.

Agreed, the impeller is toast. I would replace. You may be able to have the old one reconditioned to use as a spare. Can't see the wear ring but with that impeller damage I would think the wear ring took a hard hit also.

@ScarabMike - You might be able to chime in here.

Doesn't look that bad to me once you clear whatever that thing lodged in the impeller is out of there.

What makes you guys thing the impeller is toast? The serrated edge look it has on the bottom? If so, I believe that is actually in front of the impeller.

Yea I can't really tell from the picture but those grooves or bumps look like they are not on the impeller but something in front of it. Hard to tell from that angle. Is that a big chunk of rock or wood wedged in the impeller?

What are the dings on the shaft sleeve and is that a screw head that looks bent and pulled out (top middle/right of image)?

Cleanout ports don't protect you from sucking something up and it causing damage. They just keep you from having to limp back to the dock or jump in the water in the event you sucked something up and that it can be dislodged by hand.

Gonna pull pump this afternoon and get a closer look. I'll add some new pictures then.

I'd also be concerned about that screw on the top of the picture that looks like it got pulled out.

image.jpeg After closer inspection. All looks well. What looked like a chewed up impeller was sealant. Wear ring looks almost new. The screw is fine, just excess sealant around it. I think I got lucky here.

That's what I thought, and glad to hear it. . . . Might want to trim that excess sealant while the pump is pulled. @Speedling any thougets here?

Glad to hear no real damage. I suppose the driftwood is what smacked the screw too? I would try to replace that screw before something sheers it off and it goes through your impeller or wear ring.

Pull that pump apart and seal it up and fix the screw!
An efficient pump is a happy pump.

The screw is fine. Excess sealant is hanging down around it. It looks in picture like something is wrong with it

Glad it was what it was! Thank you for sharing!
I wouldn't necessarily pull on that sealant, may be just trim (if you must) it with something very sharp. Pulling the pump apart from time to time (like annually) is not a bad idea.

Yup! A quick inspection takes very little time and then you can recognize anything out of the ordinary very quickly.
