Not sure if anyone cares, but Fountain powerboats is making an attempt tomorrow in the little town of Washington NC, on the Pamlico River, to set a new V-bottom speed record. A friend of mine owns the record now at 180.464 mph set in 2014 in an 43' Outerlimits. Apparently they have built this particular Fountain 42 specifically to go after the record and expect to run over 200mph. It's power by two turbo charged Sterling Marine engines producing over 1900hp each.

You can see the video on the Outerlimits 2014 run here:

Not much in the way of coverage yet for the attempt tomorrow unless you follow Hammer Down Boating on Facebook.

My Yami can do that! Lol

Both my wife and my oldest son have been faster than me on the water. Brian (current record holder, at least for now) took my son on a 53' Outerlimits and they went 110mph. He took my wife on a 29' Outerlimits super Vee race boat and I think they went around 105. I have managed about 70 mph :(

Outerlimits make some amazing boats. They are built in Bristol RI, down the road where i am from and we used to go see them launch and shake down the new boats all the time.
Just the paint work is beyond amazing

Record is safe for now. They ran 150mph in their second warm up and deemed it too windy. They did however, pull the boat out of the water and are changing the drives to a higher gear ratio. Wind is not supposed to die down so no update on next attempt as of now.

@Paulie....yep! Tomorrow morning we'll know. They actually ran an unofficial, but timed attempt this morning and averaged somewhere in the middle 170's from what I heard.

That is awesome and scary as shit at the same time.

Is the local airport going to have any jet fuel after these guys are done? I would love a boat like that but could not even afford to feed it.

They were unable to best the record. Apparently they made a couple of passes and had engine trouble. They pulled the boat and put it back in the shop but one of the engines will have to be sent back to Sterling to be refreshed. Looks like it wasn't as easy as they thought it was going to be. In the meantime, enjoy this video I made a couple of years ago....looks like it will be a while before the next attempt.
