Bent my anchor

I somehow managed to bend the shank on my anchor. I have absolutely no idea how and I'm sure this thread is a letdown because I haven't taken pictures and it's 96 degrees outside. It came with my preowned boat and doesn't quite fit both sides in the locker so I doubt it came from the dealer. Point is, it's bigger and I still have no idea how I bent it. Because the shank is bent, I can't really get it to grab and it's sort of worthless because the boat drags it.

The only thing I can think is that we had one helluva current and wind one day when I was anchored off of Sheridan Point and it somehow got bent. I know it's been pretty windy a few times when I anchored and I think it happened a little bit and then got worse over a few times, but to bend it like this is crazy. No to mention the bottom is mostly sandy where I anchor with a little bit of muck, it isn't like I'm anchoring over a shipwreck or something.

Anyone else ever done this?

Ahh what the hell, I didn't melt.

It's so bent that I have to aim the shank to the stern because it won't clear the slant of the bow and go down in there.

Yeah, it looks like the shank was pulled the opposite direction of where the anchor was set and that's why the rubber coating is missing where it contacted the frame.

I'm still trying to imagine the amount of force this must've taken. It's been pretty windy with a decent amount of current at times when I've been anchored but this is crazy.

Yeah I forgot to mention that this happened two years ago shortly after I got the boat. I've continued to use it because most of the time the current only moves the boat slightly even without the anchor set. There have been a couple of times where I haven't been able to anchor though and just had to stop way the hell off shore and move when it drifted.

I have it in my head that I can fix this.

Problem is, the only time I think about it is when I go to use it. I only remembered now because of another thread I was reading here.

If it doesn't hold that well you could still use it as a secondary anchor and get a small box anchor as your primary.

Just toss it, round stock is very easy to bend , it will just do it again and it maybe in a time and place where you really need it.

Looks like a good bit of rust is forming. Toss it and go aluminum.

Good question, I planned on trying but again, the only time I think about it is when I'm getting ready to toss it in the water.

I did something similar back in June. This is what happens when your anchor gets stuck on a sunken tree and you use the motors to loosen it. I'm surprised I didn't break the anchor rope. I managed to bend it all back with a sledge hammer.
