Rookie question. I'm running an AR210, 2009 and the bilge is either on or off. The prior owner advised, if it's in the water, keep it on. So, do I keep it running even if I'm anchored, engines off?

In advance, thank you.

If your only option is on or off, I would leave it off and put it on once in while, particularly if you're anchored with people swimming etc.

If I were you though, I'd replace the pump with an automatic one which comes on whenever there's water in the bilge.

When you say "On", I assume this means it is "enabled" and is in auto mode. Meaning when you turn it on, it doesn't run constantly, but rather turns on every 3 minutes to check for back pressure and runs until it doesn't feel any (this is the standard pump on older models). If this is the case, then always leave it in auto On mode when the boat is in the water.

If the pump comes on and runs constantly, then you should check the pump screen for debris (an annual maintenance step) and if there is none, then replace the pump with a float switch pump.

Thanks for the replies. I did not know when it was on it meant "enabled" in an auto mode. Helpful. I'll check that out and see if runs constantly or intermittently. This forum has been an amazing resource. Grateful.

I would think that information would be in the owners manual…
