Boat is 1 month old and the Bimini strap hook came undone while attempting to unhook it. I replaced with hardware from Lowe's on both sides to make it more secure. If the Bimini strap hook fails while at full throttle this could take someone's eye out.

Mine did the same thing. Replaced with SS dog leash clips.

Wow...thats not good. The clip on my 2005 were fine... I had to replace the straps once and reused the OEM clips!

No doubt that one saved them $0.03 cents each from the beefier one they could have chosen.

Wow! 2 quickly confirmed failures.... This sounds like something Yanaha needs to look into.

Maybe they changed vendors for that part?

That's scary. I used to keep mine really tight on my 05AR230. Never had an issue though thankfully.

The OEM clips are junk. The third time my boat was on the water the starboard side clip looked just like yours, and the very next day the port side clip did too. Here's one of the new 1/4" clips.

Mine just did this, this weekend...15 sx192. I just replaced them with some beefier versions..I'd love to see what others have used, I had to loop the strap around my clips.

I went with a 2 piece setup so the strap and clip connect to the same piece.

Nice, yeah mine are just a few months old and are nearly still together. I've been really nervous the last couple outings and have been meaning to replace

SCSX190..

I got the same clips, but I didn't do that ring. I looped the strap through the bottom and over the hood for a cinch.

Has anyone or know of anyone that just replaced the straps with poles?

Not heard of it. The straps allow you to adjust the tension on the bimini top, keeping it tight. Poles/rods are fixed and do not allow to tighten as materials change or stretch over time. There are poles on the aft side of my bimini. The straps forward, tighten it.
