I just purchased a 2008 Yamaha AR230. Went to the lake and the starboard side engine is overheating. It take a long time before the blinking starts when going slow and about a minute if I start going fast. I checked the clean out port and could not find anything. I also looked at the pee holes and all 4 where spitting out water. Any ideas?

Check out faq at top of page and watch video of how cooling water flows

Previous owner Salt or fresh water?
Do you know how many hours are on the engines?
Did it run ok previously?
Have you checked the oil level?

Fresh water. 200 hours on engine. It ran previously. I according to owner and during test drive. I will check oil level.

Try shutting off ur battery switch and turning it back on. Mine as done this twice. Both times this fixed it.

since your getting four good stream from your indicators it sounds like a sensor rather than an internal blockage (although I wouldn't rule it out)

It would be good for you to have a YDS to see what your engines are doing, update your location and maybe there is a member near by that can read them for you,

You could get an infrared thermometer and take readings off your good engine for comparison, maybe swap your thermostats to see if the problem follows,

So I took the terminals off the battery and checked the engine oil level. It was a little high but just over the F. I took it to the lake and ran at no wake for about 10 minutes. It never overheated. I checked the oil again and the starboard engine oil leaked out of the dipstick / oil fill area. Any ideas?

Also I looked at the air filter and there was oil on it. Not much but oil. On the right side. Not completely covered or saturated

Hey nick... I will let someone else chime in but there shouldn’t be oil on the filter. I have a vac if you want to suck some oil out. Still confused why it ran fine during the test drive, and assuming nothing changed, why you would have this issue. Unfortunately I don’t have much experience with the MR-1s.

So I just wanted to update everyone. I changed the oil and spark plugs and everything is working. No issue with 2 weeks of boating.
