Hey guys I have a 2007 SX230 that I need to get registration numbers for. The hull is blue just like the picture below. I am leaning toward the 3D style lettering chrome with black outline in Wake Series font from https://www.3dlettering.com below the rub rail on the blue portion of the hull or should I go above the rub rail with a different option? Let me know what you think or if you have the same boat with a pic of your registration numbers.

Thanks,

Colin

I bought the 3d letters for the 212x.....they are really sharp. haven't put them on yet but highly recommend them.

@Colin Hunt

image.jpg here you go...don't remember the font but i'm sure you can tell by comparing on the website.

Hey! Those are really nice! I'm thinking about re-doing my letters now.

Those look good. I am thinking of doing the reverse. Chrome letters with black outline.

Those are the same ones I went with. I'm very pleased.

Your profile shows that you have an '07 boat - if you remove the numbers from where they are now, you will most likely have shadowing that will be difficult to remove - I would just replace what you have where it is now. You need a color that contrasts so if you decide to put the numbers below the rub rail you would need to go with some other color than black. White or chrome would look sharp - further towards the bow. I used silver to contrast with my black hull.

Thanks for the suggestion @RumDiet My current numbers from the previous owner are below the rub rail. I am thinking to do the white with black outline over the blue hull.

Gonna give ya a totally diff opinion you won't find anywhere else. "AUTHENTIC" APPROVED letters are 3" tall in most states. I use 2.75" tall letters, in Ariel NARROW font type. SO the obvious question is WHY ?
I find boat numbers to be OBTRUSIVE to the appearance of my craft. I do NOT want them "seen" - not whatsoever. The LESS OBVIOUS, the better.
So my choice, with a hull almost identical in color as yours is this: Place them NEAR the bow, in the BLUE HULL area, UNDERNEATH the rub rail, and use a lite GRAY color of lettering. If you read my "underneath the rub rail near the bow" to be "somewhat hidden lettering" ... then you DID read my intent correctly.
I already know I am going to get "hammered" here for saying this, but as a Free, Tax-Payin' American this is how we dance down South. LESS IS MORE when it comes to boat registration numbers. I sincerely hope in no way have I upset anyone. And by the way, I have not seen (I know someone is gonna put nails in my wrists for this, but ....) a DNR or Park/Lake Ranger get out and measure boat lettering height. LOL.
I do use ONLY vinyl lettering, and there are many qualified sellers (of vinyl lettering) on eBAY or the web to choose from.
Again, for Barbie & me, LESS is "more." Sincerely hope this helps.

PS - If you feel the need to spend a lot of $$$ on "flashy" lettering, then for Goodness Sakes do it for your BOAT NAME ! (Where it counts and means something). OK .......... I'm off my high-horse now ............ LOL ! Mikey Lulejian - Loving Lake Oconee, GA

Yeah right Mikey and when the cops need something to stop you for - well there ya go! My Dad got a $250. ticket some 50 years ago for not having the numbers spaced correctly on the boat. I can't even imagine what the fine is today. Why give LE an excuse to stop you - instead of the other guy?

A good polisher, such as the PORTER-CABLE 7424XP from Amazon, along with some good polishing compound, and you won't have a thing to worry about regarding your old numbers. They will polish right off/out leaving no rememberance whatsoever. Nothing to worry about ! Enjoy, Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

I cannot comment specifically, because I do not know the actual facts and circumstances involved. If my suggestions are done correctly, boaters should experience no problems whatsoever.
However, if you like the "intent" of my post, then here are few additional ideas:
1) Visit your particular state's boat registration'rs website the read their requirements. I feel sure the requirements are 3" high registration numbers.
2) Using ARIEL NARROW font will not violate any rules at all. Not whatsoever @ ! And the numbers will be more "compact" and less obvious to the eye.
3) Using a lite GRAY number lettering color, on a Yacht Blue hull, is perfectly fine.
4) Placing the numbers UNDERNEATH the rub rail, near the bow, is also just fine.
Again,
when it comes to registration numbers, LESS IS MORE.
Hoping this helps many.
But if I do get "hammered" it won't matter. Because early Sat AM, Barbie and I leave for Ft Lauderdale to get on board a really nice Princess boat for almost 2 weeks of cruising through the Panama Canal and a few kewl countries. No internet. No "bad" bass fishing days. No loud Yamaha dual engine noisy days. No losing weight walking miles. Well, yeah ... there'll still be that walking. LOL. Twice daily.

So take your "Shots" ... we don't got no internet on the boat. LOL @ Nuttin' we're paying for. As they say ... "We can't hear 'ya !"
Best Wishes to all, and a Happy pre-Easter Greetings to everyone here @ Mikey Lulejian (and sweet Barbie) - Lake Oconee, GA

Thanks for the suggestions @MikeyL
You are most welcome. We feel our suggestions make our SeaDoos and the Yamaha "look better" and we have received many compliments from other boaters. Many thanks for commenting. Much appreciated.

Looked but can't find a good picture, but we bought from the same website. Purchased the raised 3d lettering in white with chrome outline. We installed below the rub rail on the flat area created by the bow flares.

@Craig thanks. I think I am leaning toward the white with the chrome as well.

@Colin Hunt, Do you know that guy? The guy in the pics looks familiar to me. He looks like steveissurfing on youtube. I know he use to sell cars and boats down south.

@mattschepker I dont know him personally but I have watched a ton of his videos on youtube. I have the same looking boat in the picture, just using it for reference.
