I’ve went back and forth a lot between a jet boat and a traditional outdrive. In fact for months I’ve been looking at the same privately owned 2002 ebbtide 2300 with a Volvo 8.1L duo prop with under 200 hours and one family owned and an extended swim platform. Part of the reason for not shopping the jet boats was budget and simply not finding a lot of them around.

Then last night a one owner 13’ that’s been in the water twice was listed(sx240ho). Now it concerns me a little it’s sat so much so opinions on that are greatly appreciated as well as any contrast between the two very different 23ish foot boats. It’s listed for $34,000(about $7k higher). It’s by no means the budget I’d set out with(25k was my top but we all know how that can play out!). It maybe a smarter move investment wise being so much newer. It’s been stored inside basically 6 months out of the year. I’m sure I’ll need new trailer tires after 7 years. I’ve read here quite a bit but need to go review the check list stuff for sure. Thanks for the collectives guidances!

3 hours?
I would be concerned about problems that could arise from lack of use in 7 years.
Be ready for possible leaks, breakage, frozen parts. Etc...
If it was stored properly maybe but if asking over average retail then no way.
I am sure fuel tank has Badly contaminated(what was) fuel. Possible a sludge-like varnish on the bottem.
Would need to be cleaned out properly.
Even if it was pumped out, whatever was left has turned to crap

Unless the sale price reflects the money spent to properly get it ready for the water

Btw i would rather buy a Yamaha with many hours that is well maintained than any boat that is older with a few hours

Go for the Ebbtide, cant beat the displacement 8.1L. And the internals have been used and lubed.

They did have the tank and lines flushed, a new battery and a new fuel pump and spark plugs. That said it maybe just the start of nagging issues. They are asking $34k for this one.
The ebbtide is $27,500 without any negotiation, private party. I’d like to get it for $25k or at least start there...

I would like a good explanation of why somebody would buy a boat and let it sit for 7 Years! Seals, gaskets, bearings would just be the start of my concerns. It would be a crap shoot. If it was a phenomenal deal, that would be a different story.

Anyone know where the hours are stored on these boats? Is it possible he just swapped the gauge cluster?

What is the condition of this boat?
Showroomish?

On the 2013's they should be accessed through the LED readout on the instrument cluster, at least on mine they are. I would not think even if you swapped out the cluster for new ones you would reset the hr readings, I thought hr readout on the cluster pulled the hrs from the computer but could be wrong about that.

If the hrs are true and no big issues then I would think that's a great deal on that boat. I am toying with the idea of selling mine with 340 hrs on it for around the same price, same year but a 242LS. I would have a good look and listen to the bearings and check all the seals etc. as said in previous posts.
