So... I want to upgrade so bad I can taste it, but trying hard to be smart about it. Lol

(If you were convinced to go new) Would you say now is the time to get a '17? Would the '17s come down a bit more after the '18s are out? Or, will the 17s all get snapped up in the next 2 months and there won't be any to be had? Or, would it be worth it to wait till winter shows and consider the '18s? I'm guessing there's not going to be enough changes to these models to make full price appealing.

I found a 2017 242 Ltd S for 56,999. I'm feeling like that's a really good price from a dealer. (I haven't called, that's just the price on the website. So, they could make it up in fees I guess. )

I need to (and let the wife) sit in both an AR and the Ltd S. but I'm leaning toward the Ltd S from what I've read and seen in pics.

Or, the other thought I had is to just hold on a bit until some of the 15s and 16s start coming back in on trades. I have myself convinced that I like the '15+ features enough to stay with that age range.

Also, the wife prefers the solid colored hull, and likes the more colorful options over the white or gray. Thinking the yacht blue or black.

Any other thoughts or opinions?

Also, I guess I might as well open the discussion to other boats given a few of the recent declarations. But, with a young family I really like the idea of a jet boat. My uncle has a 28' Rinker with a 2' swim deck. I guess that swim deck gets you far enough away from the prop, but I still know it's down there.

The above price is on the high-end of what I'm willing to allow for a boat purchase, if offering other options.

Thanks

Personally, I would wait til the 18's are released. . . . It's a few short weeks away.

Happy hunting Abe can't wait to see what you decide on ! Honestly our purchase happened so fast I thought we were going to be boat hunting for awhile possibly being boat less for the rest of the summer.

when is the best time to buy a brand new boat a question all of us have asked our selves. If you are buying new I'm expecting you plan to keep it a while so the answer is when you are financially ready and have decided what you want go ahead and pull the trigger. Just decide the price you are willing to pay for the purchase and start shopping. I was quoted 57k otd on a 2016 limited s e series back in April. If I was going to spring for the limited S I would shop till I found a left over limited s e series for around the same price. I love my AR but wish I had grabbed the e series for the extra shade now even at the extra price tag. The used market on the 15 and 16 models has held firm I never found one I thought was worth buying back then but heading into winter you maybe be able to find a steal.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be good to at least see what they have. I can't imagine the '17 inventory would change that much, that fast. :)

See I told you we had our hands in your wallet once again. Usually there's some really good deals during the boat show. The leftover seventeens once the 18s come out we'll probably get snapped up pretty quickly especially if they have a tower. I was in St Charles Boat & Motor the other day and they look like they had very few yamaha's. I would say start shopping around if you find a deal Jump On It

I will sell you a 17 AR240 in the faster red option with 20-30 hours on it for $49k 5 year warranty included and mooring cover.

@robert843 I tagged that Funny, but in the back of my head, I know you're probably serious too. Lol

@BigAbe75 . . . . Better snatch it up. . . .I got dibs on his 2018. . . .

Saturday I traded my 2015 AR210 and got the 242x e-series.. I was going to wait for the 18s to roll out but the hull is new. I don'tsee yamaha changing anything major. IMG_7472.JPGYou can probably save yourself some money too. Prices only go up every year.... have fun.

Nice to see another LI'er on here. . . . Welcome aboard.

no worries yes I'm serious. I'm not really looking to sell as I can trade under the play and trade agreement but I would rather buy with out trading easier to negotiate price.

Thanks bud! Loving this site. Let me know when you are around

I'm out in Nassau but I generally boat upstate on freshwater. . . . I do the Hudson to NYC once a year when I bring the boat down to the dealer for service.

There is a yearly trip to Great Gun I would like to do at some point though.

I am in talks with dealers currently - but ultimately I am waiting until the boat show the first week of September. That will be a few days after Yamaha announces the 18s, so hopefully it will work out well.

You know what I did, I seen the deal and couldn't pass it up. 17 are getting discounted.

I would wait until the '18's came out and buy a 2017 LTd if that's what you and your family want. I remember shopping around this time last year and the dealers I went to seemed to be in a hurry to make sure their sitting inventory was gone so they were more aggressive and willing to drop those prices on previous year models. I bet you'll be able to get a great deal on a '17 and if you wait until the '18 come out and you can at least confirm that there won't be any "life changing" features on the '18 models that you wish you had.

I bought my 2016 242 S E-Series in September of 2016 once the 2017's were already on the lots. I talked to three dealers I was willing to drive to and got the best price. Ended up saving about $6k off sticker and got the extended warranty and bow and cockpit covers thrown in as well.
