Most if not all the dealers here in Naples remove and store the lowers on all their boats. That cut down on the thefts here a ton.

Only after they got robbed!

Do you know if they ever found that big boat stolen from the self storage on 951/Davis area?

There was a red and white one... about a 32' with trips? Had the video surveillance of them taking it with a stolen Ford 150/250. We got that one back... from Miami.

Naples used to be so kewl ........ When there was only Aqualane Shores, Port Royal, Third street, Fifth Avenue, 4 Corners, and no MacDonalds nor even a K-Mart ....
And the only way to get ACROSS to Doctors Pass was either a boat across, or drive North on 41 to Vanderbilt Beach and then drive South 10 miles on the Beach.
Ahhhh ................. The Good 'ole days !

Back in the day...If you stole something in south Florida and tried to take it to the other coast using Alligator Alley you were screwed!
When it was a 2 lane highway FHP on one coast would just call over to the other side and have them close the gate. Which simply meant stop taking tolls and let the cars back up.

"Back in the day ... In South Florida" ............ you drove the Tamiami Trail from there around to Marco and Naples and Ft. Myers.
There was nothing but SWAMP ... and no "Alligator Alley" !
'Jes sayin' ............. LOL !

Some of us remember when DIRT was invented. Now THAT was "THE DAY !"

Remember Swamp Buggies ? Powered by 4-cylinder motors from CJ-3 and CJ-5 jeeps ?

Hell the Alley was there in the early 60's

Alligator Alley opened to traffic on Feb. 11, 1968 — 45 years ago.
Check it out .......... Dirt was invented prior to that ......
And before that, there was US 41, The Tamiami Trail, to get from Miami around to the West Coast !

ok....You win ...sorry I was off a few years. My point was how back in the day(70's for me) we use to get stolen vehicles that were crossing the state simply by calling over to the other side. It was always interesting when they would show up on the Broward County side totally unaware of how screwed they were!

So why don't they still just check them crossing? It is still limited as to how you get from east to west and back, isn't it? Not like there are 60 ways to get there. It seems these thefts in that area could be controlled better.

@Zarrella: I was 'jes havin' some FUN. [flag] :winkingthumbsup"
As I lived in Naples wayyyyyyyyyyyy "back then."
Heck ... I was up here in Georgia (soon to graduate) going to college when the Alley was built.
Have a great day ! - Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

I'm sure to some degree they do.I havent been involved since the early 80's. I'm not sure you could get away with shutting down an entire Interstate simply to recover a stolen vehicle anymore. Seems like in South Florida that would involve shutting it down hourly....lol

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, on average, 23,000 to 25,000 vehicles travel through the east and west toll plazas every day.
Thought you might wanna know this. Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

Only 25K? Seems a stolen boat would be easy to spot!

Only problem is, there is usually a delay in reporting something stolen. If it is more than an hour, it is already on the other side. Then you don't know for sure if it went East or North on I75. Pictures can be retrieved from the toll booth of what passed through between whatever the time frame can narrow it down to and determine if it went through. In the case of something trailered you can usually get the tag number of the tow vehicle... most of which are stolen as well, and that doesn't help much

If you live in South Florida, you have either been a victim or know someone who has be victimized. Stolen vehicles are away of life and sadly, not much time and effort can be deployed for their recovery.
