That "wife and kids" pile is a little large

I can help you reduce that boat pile. o_O

It's just a hole in the water to pour $$ into. That is what BOAT means, Break out another thousand. At least you have a wife and kids pile and don't have a pile labeled "Lawyer, alimony, child support". It would be much bigger. It's all good.

You can cut down on food if you use the boat to catch some food

Funny I was thinking the food pile was too small. Can't catch wings, pizza and beer in the ocean lol.

I claim that the boat money pile can really be re-label "wife and kids", cause we know that all the money I put into the boat is really a sacrifice I make in order to provide a nice boat for my wife and kids. :D:D:D

Learn to turn wrenches so you can save on labor costs........and you can spend the money you saved on upgrades, or a new boat, or a jet sk,i or things to tow behind the boat, or a grill or a paint job, or that thing in the marine catalog or on something from AMAZON...... You get the idea.

Payment-to many variables to give an answer
Insurance-mine 700-also variable - mine is for a 72k boat in NC
Maintenance-200 year
Gasoline--variable (depends on how much you use it)- probably 1k-1.5k for us this year
Mods--$800 so far....many people do none.

Thank you for the quick reply Mr. Julian 700 a year for insurance and 200 a year for maintenance is that correct?

Yup....that is correct for me. Your insurance cost will depend on age, insurance history, amount insured, where you live etc. Your maintenance cost could be higher if you don't do your own maintenance or damage the boat.

Hopefully that Boat pile is just to aquire the boat initially. It shouldn't be that bad once established. Bust Out Another Thousand!

Eat the “Food” on the “Boat” with the “Wife & Kids” ... perhaps one “tall stack” with help everyone feel better?

Sorry not understanding 10% of the boat value?

I think the general consensus is that you can expect to spend 10% of the value of a boat every year, on the boat. Depends how you use it of course, but insurance, fuel, maintenance, repairs, and general boat-related nonsense costs that always creep into your wallet. Yamahas are better in this department, especially with regard to maintenance and the very low cost associated with winterization.

Yeah, 10% of the purchase price per year for fuel, maintenance, repairs, slip fees, crew, etc. A million dollar boat can cost about 100k per year if you use it regularly. It can be way less for small boats if you only use them a few times and trailer to your house. I have captain and cook friends that work on 100'+ yachts. They were making 100k/yr each, 30k/month budget on the credit card. 12,000 gallon fuel up with the gas truck filling the station tank while they take 2 days to top it off! Big boats are big money!
