Damn shame.

Wow. Supposedly they hit the jetty at 3:30 am. I would love to go out at night but stories like this hold me back--that and retrailering in the dark. Of course it's highly unlikely I'd be out at 3:30...

They said they were full throttle at the time of impact. Last time I read and saw a post they hadn't found all the bodies either.....yikes !!

Hopefully his fame combined with his loss will help others understand the consequences of making terrible decisions.

Another tragic loss! So sorry for all the families involved.

This is sad. They found two bodies under the boat and one on the rocks. Not sure why but they said they didn't think alcohol or anything was involved. They also said no one was wearing life vests but that isn't surprising . I don't know the area but maybe they were simply heading back and were off course and hit the break. His wife or girl friend is pregnant too. I know this hard on his family especially after such a winning story and from what I understand a good person. I am sure we will find out more in a few days.

really sad, don't go full throttle unless you are very familiar with the area....

My understanding is that they hit the north jetty of Government Cut in Miami. This is an overhead view. The crosshairs are where I believe the boat is shown in the photos.

I am curious how the boat ended up upside down. From the damage to the bottom it must have drug along the rocks for some distance before flipping over. I wonder if they were coming out of the harbor and took a left before clearing the jetty or if they were running along the coast and ran into the jetty. Either way they are very close to and on the wrong side of the lighted buoy. It is important to read and remember these USGC Navigational Rules.
