was out testing a 1999 mirage today with a seller, engine looks good but when seller started it from cold start, it was smoking for about 30 seconds or so, seems like it ran fine after we started running the waters, is this normal for it to smoke??

It's a 2-stroke, it's gonna smoke. Completely normal.

Using higher quality synthetic 2 stroke oil like stihl or amsoil will reduce the amount of smoke.

There are some 2 stroke oils that even have scent additives that reduce the smell, the names of which are beyond the limits of my memory.
